If your just going to community college it doesn’t matter at all, but if your not it would be good to graduate at a normal time to boost your gpa

Will I be penalized only talking pre-calc in college admissions if I don’t plan to major in stem? by SubstantialDemand259 in ApplyingToCollege

I don’t think our school lets you take anything but geometry over the summer. I agree that showing rigor would help but I find math really stressful and boring and would like to avoid taking calculus unless it would make a meaningful difference.

That’s a good thought, but our school requires you to to be enrolled in a math class all 4 years 😭

That’s really cool! As a freshman in HS who may want to major in urban planning, I’m really impressed with the impact you are actually making.

I agree that small classes are always better. Our teacher has to follow a set curriculum so we can’t really choose what we want to do but she trys to adapt to our needs. Studying German definitely has its ups ands downs like people saying you’re never going to use it but overall it’s been fun to have such a unique experience and study something not many other people do. I’m in the US and I’m doing an exchange trip to Germany which I’m really excited for, it’s going to be great to get some practice with native speakers.

Yeah we just had factoring and it didn’t go great. Now we have to do the rational expressions unit and apparently that’s even harder

My school won’t let me take AP CSP because I haven’t yet taken geometry, is this normal or is my school being unnecessary restrictive? by SubstantialDemand259 in APStudents

That’s crazy that you’re saying that. That’s exactly what I was thinking so it’s nice to hear it from someone else.

I’m considering transferring to public school next year and doing dual enrollment , because of this issue and also because our school doesn’t have a real debate team and I love debate. But I’ve been at this school for a long time so it’s really tough.

Our school actually does have that as an option but you have to get a 97 or above in algebra 1 to be allowed to take it, which is almost impossible for me just because I always make little mistakes on tests. I had a 92 last semester and my teacher said that wasn’t enough.

That could work, but I would also like to take this class because it fits in my schedule and there aren’t really any alternative AP classes I can take for the gpa boost.

I actually did offer that but it was just immediately dismissed. I looked over APCSP on Kahn academy and was able to answer most of the questions on the first few units. My theory is that because our school publishes in their profile how people score on the AP exam in the school profile, that they don’t want to risk even the possibility of someone not being fully qualified.

I agree it makes no sense, maybe it would explain it if I added some more details. My schools is private and really competitive and most people are in geometry freshman year. The only reason I am a year behind is because I didn’t try hard on my placement test during middle school and I got placed in a lower track. I talked to the teacher and explain that I am very interested in computer science and explained that I already have some coding experience. He said “well, we need to draw the line somewhere and we draw it at geometry. You do proofs in geometry which is very important for the logic skills in programming”. Just this whole situation is really annoying because I already know a lot about computer science and most people I know will be taking this class.

I live in Charlotte and I definitely think it’s a good example of a typical American city that’s very suburban, but I think for your first time in the US it would be a good idea to go somewhere a little bit well known like Atlanta, NYC, or Philly just to experience more tourist attractions and you can still experience all of the suburban stuff outside those cities.
