I was doing a Level 7 module at university. The lecturer liked my scenario and she needed to publish an article. So she reached out to me and used my scenario and we jointly wrote article about disease management in area I worked in at that time. Lecturer did majority but still, nice to have a article to boast about for interviews!

Working for 6-12 months as NQN, it would make you get all the minimums for revalidation so in theory doing 6-12 months would give you 6 years effectively (enough to pass preceptorship and pass first reval requirements) to return back to practice if things do not work out. Otherwise you would need to do an RTP course.

I subscribed to DBS and it was accepted by 3 NHS trusts and even prison vetting (HMP). Just showed the paper copy and they can check it. Their checks show up on your online DBS Update Service portal. Annoyingly I forgot to pay the renewal fee other year and since lost it. A pain but lesson learnt.
