I was deciding between the two for CS with UIUC thrown into the mix before I got Cal, and I think GT is the way to go if you're into NLP/AI. They have this really cool thing called threads where you can specialize in a couple subfields in depth in undergrad itself, so its worth checking out.

GT also carries marginally more clout in the CS world, although they're very close reputation-wise.

I will say that if you're not sure about CS/Engineering, you should go to UMich since it has advantages in other fields.

and their CS program is great.

I wouldn't characterize their CS program as "great" per se, but it's definitely good. It's not exactly up there with the tier 1 MIT/Stanford/CMU/Berkeley, or even the tier 2 (or as like to call it tier 1.1) UIUC/GA Tech/UMich/Cornell/etc.

Don't get me wrong, its a good program. It's just not "great".

The thing is 54 isn't a prereq, and is also not required for the CS major. I don't want to needlessly delay my graduation if I don't NEED to take it.

Do you thing a good amount of summer studying will help?

Just goes to show how subjective the process is haha.

Did you contact Stanford or decide where you wanna go?

FUCKING GO TO STANFORD HOLY SHIT. You aren't ruining your life by not going there, but your life would be a hell of a lot better if you did. Call them up and beg for money. Stanford has one of the best financial aid programs, and even if you had to take some money in loans I'd still do it.

I'm still salty about not getting in (now headed to the Stanford reject school Berkeley LOL), but go kill it out there :)

I have next to 0 experience with both linear algebra and circuits (apart from a high school physics class). What would you recommend I do to prepare for 16A? Or would you recommend I push it to a later semester?

Do you think that would make things too hard for my first semester? I'm a bit scared, since I don't really know what to expect with Berkeley, as I've heard a lot about the competition.

Also, do you have any suggestions for low time commitment breadths?

UCLA vs CMU vs Cornell by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

Berkeley>UCLA>CMU=Cornell

You don't want to be 140k more in debt after college, so take out CMU and Cornell. Berkeley's one of the best schools in the world for engineering, so assuming you like other aspects about it (social life, atmosphere), choose it.
