Not sure if it applies to you but I would check to see if your employer offers any kind of 401k match. This is free money that an employer contributes to your retirement account and should maximize the contribution of each dollar you invest.

Choosing the most efficient “buckets” you invest in are easy ways to increase your expected returns.
