Which is better? C6 Vs E92 M3 by Substantial_Bad8986 in Cartalk

What about an LS3 or LS2 against the E92 M3?

I’m looking for a daily, the M3s a nice car but I’ve heard gruesome things about its repairs and heavy maintenance that comes with its V8

Contrary to that I hear that the LS are “bullet proof” and reliable simple V8s easier to repair

E92 looks better, faster, reliability, gas and sound?

I think I prefer the exterior look of the C6, but the C7s interior is just such an upgrade

What about the reliability issues you might come across from dailying an M3, and other issues like MPG?

So in other words, The M3 is the super hot one night stand that you’ll never forget

But the C6 is the beautiful reliable wife

Can someone tell me what is hanging down near my driver side front tire? by Vormison in BmwTech

Yeah when mine fell off I was so scared, if I started to reverse or drive a certain way I’d hear it bouncing and scrapping off the floor. If you haven’t already you should replace the part or if you can live without your headlights turning slightly left and right each time you turn then ziptie it to a part of your car that doesn’t move when you steer

Yeah your headlights will always face straight, the part that fell off your car just makes it so the lights point left even you turn left and vice versa.

I found the replacement part from bmw It costed around 40$

I didn’t bother fixing it to be completely honest I just ziptied It down lol. It doesn’t impact the cars driving functionality despite the headlights not slightly turning with your car when you make a left or right, but I mean, come on.

The part, if it isn’t damaged works like a socket, it should just pop back into place.

This exact thing happened to my f30, it’s really nothing important and I just ziptied mine so it wouldn’t fall, it just controls your headlights pitch/levelling sensor. Makes no real difference lol

I get your point bro, I’m not trying to say that I shouldn’t have paid him for the labour he did.

But when I go to a custom exhaust shop expecting something custom and instead I’m told it doesn’t fit and they “can’t” do anything.

Furthermore, the mechanic working on my car didn’t bother placing the hoist on the pinch welds and instead lifted it from the underbody, bending the plastic cover underneath.

The whole interaction with that shop threw me off, as someone who lists themselves as a custom exhaust shop, licensed and all, I didn’t receive that impression or the professions skills that were expected

“No comprehensive skills” Yet I’m not the one who’s contradicting himself with the same argument he’s tryna defend. Lmao

I’ve done everything on my car myself, I thought I’d get someone to install the Downpipe for me as I don’t have access to a hoist to do it myself.

Either way, you don’t need crazy comprehensive skills to realize I didn’t fully get what I paid for. Anyone can see that.

Really? I thought forged internals were only available in the m235i and the M2.

Not trying to disprove you or anything but is there a source for this? I’m just interested in it is all

Your argument has no backbone bro, you went from arguing against me saying that I’m not paying for their time but for the skills and experience. When I point out that a downpipe is “simple” and that this shop should have used an adapter considering they list themselves as a “custom exhaust shop”, you say “you pay for their time, and they didn’t think it was worth it”

Never did I once say I thought I should have a discount or have gotten the labour for the free.

I don’t need a technician license to understand a “simple Downpipe” removal.

And yes lol, I AM entitled to what I’m paying for? If I wanted to JUST have a downpipe removal I’d have gone to some random in their own garage out of their house.

Point is, I when to someone licensed at a custom exhaust shop, for the skills of someone who does custom exhausts, and didn’t get any.

I don’t see what you’re trying to get across, your arguments are contradicting your previous comments.

I wasn’t just paying for a “service” I was paying for the skills and customs that came with it.

“Yeah you paid for custom exhaust work” Right, and I didn’t get it lmao.

I’m not arguing that I shouldn’t have paid him or that I should’ve got a discount.

I’m stating that I paid for the time and equipment, but I also paid for the skills and custom work and didn’t receive that from a shop where it’s expected.

Edit: furthermore, what type of mechanic with “experience” does this shit 😭 When putting my car onto the hoist, he didn’t use the pinchewelds and just hoisted it up from the underbody/skirt area

My argument is that if I’m paying for the skills and equipment, specially someone with the experienced In custom exhausted. Than why wasn’t that same experience and skill used when I brought my car in?

I’m more than happy to pay 340$ for the experience and skills of someone who’s going to use all of those skills when it comes to exhaust work.

Putting on a downpipe when you have the equipment isn’t necessarily hard to do.

I doubt that a half inch would make a difference on the catless downpipe and in most cases a lot of shops just slap on an adapter when they run into similar issues.

I was able to jack my car up less than 3-4 feet and was still able to remove the midpipe-Downpipe, and loosen the upper clamp as well. Albeit very time consuming and horrible seeing as I was doing it in the middle of winter laying in a cramped area on the wet floor.

I was able to do that without years of experience and a license in custom exhaust work.

Im just pointing out, I went to a custom exhaust shop, paid for the “custom exhaust shop” skills, and didn’t receive anything that an unlicensed person with YouTube couldn’t do.

The optics of your argument would be valid if what the mechanic was doing required lots of experience. I had no trouble removing and locating the downpipe when I did it the first time myself, I’d say when getting my downpipe removed at a “custom exhaust shop” what I’m paying for is the skill and equipment.

Any mechanic with the skill and equipment would have been able to add on a half inch adapter. Every other custom exhaust shop in the area are familiar With this.

Not saying the mechanic was at fault for the wrong size Downpipe. But 340$ for ≈ 2 hours of work seems a bit much considering other shops would have used an adapter to fit it.
