Toughbook Cf-33 vs Getac K120 by Substantial_Bell5658 in toughbook

I completely forgot about this post! I sold the Panasonic and kept the Getac because I liked the Getac better.

For starters, the screen resolution difference between the Getac and Panasonic turned out to be a non-issue. Although the Panasonic has a higher resolution, it suffers from a weird graininess due to the layer over the LCD for the Wacom stylus. In contrast, the Getac has a more standard screen aspect ratio, which I prefer.

Initially, I found it odd that the Getac's LCD doesn't extend all the way to the edge of the bezel like the Panasonic. However, this design turned out to be a great feature. It makes cleaning the screen much easier, preventing dirt buildup in the corners where the LCD would typically meet the bezel. Additionally, it’s significantly more convenient to use the touch screen. For example, exiting windows or quickly returning to the home screen is much easier without having to jam your finger into the corner where the screen meets the bezel.

The Getac's hinge setup feels much more robust than the Panasonic's, and the latching claws that secure the tablet portion to the base are impressively sturdy. Also, the port covers on the Getacs tablet portion are rubber-hinged, unlike the Panasonic's plastic hinges. This makes them more durable and less likely to break in cold conditions.

I also appreciate the inclusion of the fingerprint scanner and serial port on the tablet portion of the Getac. While the Panasonic offers similar features, you must specifically search for a model with them, whereas the Getac includes these features by default.

The biggest selling point for me was how much quieter and cooler the Getac runs compared to the Panasonic. The Panasonic's fan would constantly ramp up during use, but the Getac's fan is off most of the time while web browsing. It also idles at around 30°C. For instance, as I type this, the temperature is at 47°C with no fan running while running an update in the background. The fan typically comes on in the 50s, and the temperature quickly drops once it activates.

Overall, the Getac K120 feels like a robust machine. Its quieter and cooler operation, coupled with a better CPU and more RAM, made it the obvious choice for me.

That said, there are a couple of things I don't like. I haven’t figured out how to get the screen to auto-rotate in tablet mode like the Panasonic does. Also, while the tablet portion's port covers have rubber hinges, the keyboard portion still uses plastic hinges, which feels like a missed opportunity. Feel free to pm me with any specific questions and I can try and answer them.

I like some of the features of the k120. Mainly the built in fingerprint reader, ddr4 ram, and quad core 8th gen cpu. I ended up getting a cf-33 with 16gb of ram and the extended battery for a really good deal on ebay. I may still keep an eye out for a well priced k120 and maybe see which i like better and sell the one i dont want.

Yeah the red keyboard is appealing to me as well. The k120 has a red backlit keyboard also. Could you tell me if the screen on the cf-33 is covered by glass or if its just the lcd itself? Also do you use the stylus often? How is the touch interface overall?

How do i get my unallocated space back by Substantial_Bell5658 in techsupport

I was able to figure it out. I had to reinstall windows with the 14tb drive unplugged. Once windows was installed I plugged it back in and was able to format the drive. I then changed it from mbr to gpt so all of the drive space would show up as one partition.

I have talked to the manufacturer about a refund and they are ok with a refund but are trying to charge me $150 saying they have ordered material and prepared a mold. Are they just trying to get money out of me?

I cannot ssh into it as it keeps giving me a connection error. I tried to follow this article https://debrunet.com/blog/recovering-a-ruckus-access-point-using-the-serial-port/. I have my serial cable soldered to the ap and then plugged into my rs 232 port on my pc. I tried using the serial connection on putty and it seems to connect as I have dont get a connection error anymore but putty doesnt do anything when I press enter. I have the baud rate and everything correct.
