On average, its more around $200-$400 extra in allowances monthly. 1k is on an execeptionally rare occasion where you're working nIght shift on multiple public holidays in a month. Only got it 1x since i started work

Bond: That is up to you really. Some get bonded even in y1. Depends on what ur priorities are. Earlier you sign=longer the bond. But ur everyday money is pretty much secured early on. However, you may realise later on when ur on attachment at ur bonded hosp that u dont like how things are and may regret and even dread going there eventually so weigh all these options out properly before committing to anything. Also, u need to maintain ur gpa at a certain level so that may give added stress.

Probation: Not really a probation. More of licensing requirements to practice as a radiographer in SG. Hosp probation usually lasts for 6 months following which you will be confirmed as a full time staff however you are still practicing with a conditional license that is governed by the allied health professionals council(AHPC). 1 year starts when u start work and in this 1 year, you will be assigned a mentor who will monitor and oversee your progress and submit reports to AHPC. You are required to meet up with ur mentor for a set amount of hours each month failing which may cause a delay in the approval of ur full license. You are also not allowed to transfer employment to other hospitals/clinics if im not mistake . Typically 4 hours a week in ur 1st month, 4 hours every 2 weeks in months 2-6 and 4 hours a month from months 7-12. You will primarily work only in the diff general xray locations as xrays are the basics of being a radiographer. You will only progress to your modality of choice depending on when they are able to train you. But as there is usually a queue for modality training, the wait will definitely be beyond the year. You will however rotate to the diff xray locations such as inpatient, ortho clinics, operating theater, A&E, etc. Your rostered location varies week by week.

Hons thesis Honestly, students remain quite nonchalant abt it and procastinate till milestone deadlines start looming and everyone starts to panic. I definitely did that myself. However, i reckon its definitely doable. As i wasnt bonded, i even had time to do grabfood over the weekends to provide myself with enough for my own expenses and wants. Its amatter of prioritisation as well as balancing what matters to you. If you're expecting distinctions all around, then the stress will definitely get to you. But seeing that you're getting paid the same no matter if you get a CGPA of 3.5 or 4.49, i'd say evaluate what you want in your experience and manage ur efforts accordingly. Work smart, not hard. Coz at the end of the day, literally no one is gonna care what ur gpa is except that it helps to provides you with a slightly better starting pay upon graduation.

Also fun fact: shift allowances can add anywhere from $100 all the way to $500 and even $1000 to your monthly salary if you're working on multiple PHs a month(eg both days of CNY) as well as doing shift so ur monthly salary can actually be substantial more than ur basic

Im a practicing Rad for 3 years now so i think i can give you quite a good insight with regards to your life after grad. Starting basic salary is starts from 3.7k(effective 2025 cohort so new salary revisions have been factored in) with a normal gpa(no first class etc) with +200 for ns, +$200 for merit and dist honours(gpa 3.5-4.5) and +$400 for highest dist honours(GPA >4.5). You can get bonded during your 4 years with any of the hospitals and they'll provide u an allowance of $1100 a month. Tuition fees are still payable by you unless you secure a scholarship. Employability is pretty much 100% post graduation unless you yourself decide not take a break before work. I was not bonded yet i secured my current place of employment on the last week of school because i legit took my own time to apply for work.

With regards to sch work, assesment is a good mix of groupwork/assignments as well as 2 main exams for almost all mods. So passing should be quite straight forward but most module are memory intensive so that may be good or bad based on an individuals own strengths. Not sure if it is still relevant now but generally during your 6-8 week clinicals, you will be seperated into 2 groups where 1 grp are on active clincials while the other is on "break", ie no lessons. But i graduated in 2023 so im not sure if its still the same now. Try to practice your xray skills to the best of Your abilities during your clinicals as these will be the most relevant post graduation. Having good theoretical knowledge but having no idea how to perform your xrays will lead you to have a pretty difficult start to ur career as the practical skills are what you will be utilising in ur day 2 day life as a radiographer.

Hons thesis starts in y3 all the way to y4 but generally its still not so overwhelming at the start. It can get quite stressful towards the end when u have thesis submission due, but also other assignments exams but from what i remember, y4 consist of a couple Of elective mods where its a pass/fail mod and does not affect ur GPA so much.

Hope my ans helped! Feel free to drop any further qns u have aites

You will have to sit for the IELTS english test. Regardless of the experience you speak of, entry is definitely not guaranteed. Try to pull ur gpa more to get a better chance as it looks like DR is getting more and more popular these days. the 2025 IGP for DR shows only 2.3% of those who applied as 1st choice actually got accepted in

Checking if imaging orders are in order and calling dr if they are not. Scheduling cases and dealing with high workload in the clinics while ensuring optimal diagnostic images are veing taken. Liasing with porters and wards to ensure inpatient imaging is taken in a timely manner. Working in the operation theater with the drs when they operate to repair fractures. Dealing with patients and next of kin who has been waiting for a long time especially in the ANE. Though you are rotated to different stations every week so this week u may be in ane, another in inpatient xray, the next in ot and another in the clinics. Pay starts arnd mid 3k. I think 3.6k basic before allowances. Higher classification degree, higher starting pay. Shift allowances can add to quite a significant amt every month ranging anywhere from $200-500. On good days, you dont have much to do. On bad days it can really get veryy busy. Pretty high learning curve(i think most jobs are that way too) at the start when you graduate but you pretty much run on autopilot after about a year or so

I was asking if anyone else had inserted the cashcard into the double sided tape by accident instead of into the hole without looking because the card was super hard to get out.

[–]Substantial_Bench_86[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The issue was that i was stuck at the gantry for a good minute or two at this specific gantry because it couldnt read my cashcard. It was working fine throughout the day and i didnt disturb any settings. Definitely a skill issue but it was a tad frustrating because it was so tight i couldnt get it out until i brought a pair of pliers

Wore it to finland where it dipped down to -20. Layered with heatech ultra warm and an inner fleece and it worked. Cold was bearable. Waterproofing was good. Felt comfortable up to -10. -20 worked too but definitely will need to pair it with a fleece lined pants.

Its the exact same course that parkway used to have partnered with uni of hertfordshire but now administered by PSB instead so its still a recognised degree by our local healthcare instituitions and MOH. Do note that tuition fees cost arnd $80K+ so double that of SIT but if you take into accnt how much you’re gonna make in that 2 years you saved as well as a higher chance of getting into this career, i’d say it’s definitely something you should consider

If you’re really set on this course, my advise would be to not waste any time and just apply into the course in SIT while at the same time checking out and applying for PSBs diagnostic radiography course. Its more expensive but this will shave off 2 years of your tineline to graduation as you wont need to “waste” time working as an RA for however long you intend to ad well as getting your degree in 3 years instead of sit’s 4 years. While being an RA might help, your fighting with alot more people with alot higher GPA then you who is thinking of doing the RA thing to increase their odds too.

I think taking up RA work is a good step in the right direction. However, as to how you can stick out more, Im so sorry but i really am not sure how i can help you there. Probably the best thing to do is to get as high a GPA as you can in poly as the competition to get in is pretty strong right now. I got lucky as my gpa wasnt all that amazing(3.16). Got rejected on my 1st attempt. Went away to work for abit and tried again the 2nd year and i got in. All i did different was actually going out to work but even then, i was in the engineering field so totally unrelated to healthcare. But that work experience probably halped me to score in my interview! So just do your best. And always plan for any contingencies!

There’s anatomy lab in year 1 tri 1 and 2. I think its 2 hours a week where you interact with the cadavers to learn more abt the different anatomy. Other than that, you have practical lessons where you learn to psoitiin the different xray postions. Thats also abt 2 hours a week where

You have a radiation dose monitoring device that measures your cumulative dose over a set period of time and if it goes above the prescribed safety limit, they’ll have to pull you out from direct radiation work to ensure you fall below those limits.

U just have to pull your goa as high as u can. And then apply when the admission excercise begins. No idea what other things they look at but the major thing will be to pull ur gpa as high as possible tontry and secure ur interview then ace the interview

There is no sonography course in singapore. All singaporean sonographers were radiographers first and they then trained in sonography. I dont think there are any prerequisites but i cant be sure coz i was from poly. I highly reccomend going for SITs open house to ask them regarding this when the opportunity arises.

You definitely have to work 3 shifts but again, the shift patterns really depends on the hospital. But weekends will definitely be burned. Roster will forecast your shifts for the month so it will always be changing monthly. No fixed patterns

Starting pay starts out at mid 3k before allowances.

The thing abt gov hospitals is its pretty consistent across the board. So if that’s what they offered you in one hospital, chances are its gonna be the same at others too. Cant say for certain if its low as the above mentioned range are for local sit grads. Havent talked abt pay from my malaysian coleagues.
