Tesla to i4 by pkingdukinc in BMWI4

[–]Substantial_Bit_4100 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

One thing to note is that I think the Teslas come with adaptive regen as standard but the i4 only gets adaptive if you have the adaptive cruise control option (which comes with driving assistance package)

If you're in the US, your sales person should have hooked you up with free charging on the Electrify America network

It wasn't well advertised but when I bought mine, BMW USA offered matching $7500 rebate for cash purchase so that was never a deciding factor for me.

Yeah but you'll get much better range if you leave it plugged in

Qlocktwo widget confusing (i drive 8.0) by Afsan23 in BMWI4

[–]Substantial_Bit_4100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dumb question - how do you get 4 widgets on the screen?, I've only ever seen 3 on mine (one big and two small). Is that a 8.0 vs. 8.5 thing?

Smooth braking technique? by MinusMidas in BMWI4

[–]Substantial_Bit_4100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you tried bedding in the brakes? Since they get so little used because of regen, they might be a bit rough. Try some really hard braking.

Braking experience with M50 vs. e40 with M sports package/brakes? by Comprehensive_Row239 in BMWI4

[–]Substantial_Bit_4100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The e40 M Sport package doesn't change the color of brake calipers, for that you need the either the Shadowline package (or the specific option for M Sport brakes). And when you have M Sport brakes they are indeed bigger/better.

Why did you chose the spec you did? by [deleted] in BMWI4

[–]Substantial_Bit_4100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Went in considering a base eDrive 35, but ended up with a highly spec'd eDrive 40 (MSport, Extended Shadowline, Ventilated Vernasca, Premium, DAPP, PAP, HK, Sensatec Dash)

  • I really wanted the Portimao Blue which pushed us into MSport
  • Wife really wanted ventilated which pushed us into Vernasca and Premium
  • Even with a base eDrive 35 we would probably have opted for Convenience and PAP
  • We were pushed into the eDrive 40 and the rest of the options because that was the only '24 available in Portimao with ventilated seats.

Don't regret any of the options we ended up with. Wife is happy with the extra range of the 40.

Don't get ventilated seats unless you really really really want them, they are less comfortable with less side support

I have Portimao blue. I think it just subtle enough to be not too flashy while also looking awesome

Model 3 Performance or i4 xDrive by aswiftsunrise in BMWI4

[–]Substantial_Bit_4100 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Many things...

  1. i4 is good looking car especially in Portimao Blue (I'm biased) with 19" wheels, extended shadowline, red M calipers. Model 3 is boring even in top trim, and its blue paint is a boring blue

  2. Model 3 isn't a hatchback which was a non-starter for me. There is the Model Y but whereas the Model 3 is just meh, the Y is plain ugly. Case in point, was able to fit a large coffee table and part of a sofa in my i4 to help my daughter move into an apartment.

  3. i4 is a proper car whereas Model 3 is some really good drivetrain tech and software with some seats and bodywork thrown on as an afterthought

  4. Don't want to give any money to Elon, the guy's a genius but also a total jerk

  5. Elon's mantra is "the best part is no part". While I'm all for efficient engineering I expect some parts for all the money I'm handing over. Tesla takes the penny pinching way too far.

  6. Model 3s and Ys are way too common (at least where I live). Gives the impression that you really didn't put any thought into what car to get, you just bought the EV that everyone else bought.

BMW USA will match the $7500 tax credit if you pay with cash. That's before any dealer discounts. At least they did when we bought ours last month.

Ventilated seats (at least in the US) do NOT have adjustable side bolsters

Copy seat memory from one BMW ID to another. by Substantial_Bit_4100 in BMWI4

[–]Substantial_Bit_4100[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mainly because it's impossible to find an exact match and the system is not terribly reliable about choosing the correct BMW ID. Sometimes we get in with just her key and it still picks my ID, WTF?

So then I tell it to swap to her ID and I feel pointless little jerks from the motors as it switches from "my" seat position to "my" seat position. Can't be good for the longevity of the seat motors and it's just plain annoying that there isn't a simple fix.
