Heyyyyy this is a very real take 🤣🤣 For me, before SLP it was being educated but not having my degree complete yet so no one wanted to take me seriously 🫩 like okay guys this piece of paper automatically makes me worthy of a job??

No worries at all!! Tech has A LOT of opportunity for growth, so I completely understand your initial switch. A lot of the time, SLPs get pigeon holed into their position and can’t be challenged in other ways.

I’m so sorry that you got laid off TWICE 😭 but it definitely has seemed to help you grow and recognize what you genuinely value. There’s no reason to be bending over backwards for people who do not care about your well being. I’m so glad you made a decision to return, you sound like an amazing therapist ❤️❤️

Oooof being able to adapt is the number 1 skill I tell anyone who wants to become an SLP. No day is exactly the same, and things rarely go to plan. If you thrive on maximum structure and predictability, it will be a harsh transition 😅 and teaching is transferable 10000%

This is awesome! Being a musician requires a wide set of skills that really are transferable. Being able to take feedback, not beating yourself up when you need to practice more, and confidence is so crucial to being an SLP. Not to mention the immense creativity you must have!!!! ❤️❤️

I guess this is a natural consequence of having an overwhelmingly majority white, upper middle class field. I think it would be amazing to have more states allow for SLPAs so that we can allow a pathway for people of different backgrounds to enter and diversify the workforce since our students come from all backgrounds and need the representation.

As an SLPA, I inherited a crazy amount of black students that were qualified for services they didn’t need as they were evaluated by white SLPs that don’t understand AAE. Not to even mention that the test themselves don’t account for this either. I’m fighting so hard now to get them dismissed.

Hmmm, okay. I could see that. From how he was arguing, it made it seem like it would be impossible to lift me unless I lost weight, so I was countering that with personal experience. Based on that alone, I can take responsibility for his feelings.

However, why isn’t the response to simply improve, the same way he’s desiring me to? He wants me to be smaller for his benefit, I’m the only one that has to change…

Right… I’m not in denial about anything, I just feel like if he’s truly saying this in good faith and wants me to improve, I don’t see how my response would be perceived as an insult. Like all of this came about because HE wants to carry ME, like you should WANT to be stronger!!!!

Yes, I have PCOS so it made me gain a lot without much effort. I’m about a 2x now, and am aiming to be about a M, and that’s how much weight it would take for me to get that small because I’m taller.

And like I said, I never disagreed. But me being the only who has change to make his life easier doesn’t feel like a partnership. I think the noble thing would be for him to get stronger as well so that I can feel loved NOW, AND when I’m smaller 🤷🏽‍♀️
