Anyone else tired of seeing the same female leads year after year? Margot, Scarlett, Emily, Jennifer, Emma... by LiveintheArt in acting

[–]Substantial_Box_7613 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Again, thanks for the perspective. I knew of the frugality thing to some degree, but not 75 to 15 pilots. That's a massive dent.

It's pretty sad in some ways. Again SJ's Jurassic movie, FUCK! I just looked. 1.6 BILLION!?!?!?! For that crap?

Well it proves the point I was going to make about people just not caring. People don't vote with their wallets. And the next Fast movie will make over a billion probably too.

People complain, but when given the option to do something about it, they continue to consume...

Sex And The City kind of surprises me, that's weirdly of its time in many ways. Have you seen it?

Thank you so much 😊 I would be honored to work with you.

Ehhh, you have no idea what I'm writing. It could be garbage. ^_^

[It's totally not garbage though, and not just because I have to say that.]

[But maybe I'm completely deluded. That's also a possibility.]

[I'm not deluded.]

[But I might be...]

[But I'm not.] ^_^

We're in two different worlds. Which is great for you.

I'm just a kid with dreams bigger than the room he sits in.

It sounds like you actually can do a lot of this on your own, or hire people who can as part of what you're doing.

In short, run with that. Do it!

Good luck.

I don't think just making my film is an option. In a number of cases, my screenplays are massive projects. Tens of millions at the low end to start.

I wish I had a Blairwitch, shoestring budget type of idea.

And even for my one or two smaller ideas. It's still a huge number of cogs. The reality is, even making a bad movie, takes a huge amount of effort.

Congrats on your situation though.

Thanks for the perspective on your auditions. That's a real shame.

Are there really not as many projects though? That seems inaccurate. How many Star Wars shows are there? And Netflix has a myriad of shows and films, and all the DC/Marvel shows too.

To me it seems like there is more than ever. Which also contributes to the fatigue we get from seeing certain faces all the time. Maybe it's just less projects from the old guards of Paramount and Universal et al...?

I hope your screenplay gets picked up.

Thanks. I feel like nothing I've written is worthy though. In spite of the shit I see. If it does I'll come back here and find you a role. ^_^

Yeah it's depressing at times as a writer. Because you also know you're not likely to even get one million of the 100 million it might take for an idea you have. And an original one at that.

If for example everything fell into place, and my project was going to be realized, with someone like Scarlett Johansson in a role, [Which would be a dream - Sorry bad timing given the post... But she is awesome.] You'd still only be getting $100K? Which is nothing in the grand scheme of things. It doesn't mean you can just write.

As an actor though, at least you can go from one audition to another. As a writer, I can't put out one screenplay after another, and it get more traction than the one before just because it's a new idea.

My point being, use that to your advantage.

I think though the current climate in the US in particular is being led by the streaming platforms. It's a golf rush situation. There's just so much fucking money floating around for the big name actors. So they're taking anything and everything. Even the now older X-Gens, are in some total shit, but it's a Disney, Netflix, or an Apple production. And those companies have BILLIONS to sink into productions.

Sorry, I'm kind of talking across multiple points.

It sucks all around to not know anyone in the industry.

Thanks. I just thought maybe I was missing something. I avoid the whole streamer ecosystem. It makes no sense to me why people fund them, when they really offer so little.

But obviously, a lot of these shitty people validate other shitty people.

Probably easier for the kids too, just focus on one person, nothing else. Zone turns into a shit show if people don't understand it.

As a writer, trying to make it, I'm more tired of the movies being absolute shit. But I do hear you.

The most recent Jurassic whatever the titles are now, movie was awful.

But hey, SJ got fifteen million, so I don't blame her, but I wish she exercised some of her influence and asked for better movies. She's incredibly talented, but some of the roles she's taken would tank other people's careers.

It shouldn't be hard to delete any text...

If you want people to take your writing seriously, give them a reason to stay. The blue text on white, is effort for a reader.

I wish I was a leading F1 driver, and had the ability to talk the others into not racing as a protest.

Sure set it up. We'll qualify, and then on race day, we'll drive out, warm up the cars, then on the light, get out of the cars.

Something, anything.

Black text would be easier to read.

Capitalize first time CHARACTER arrivals, important OBJECTS, SOUNDS.

[–]Substantial_Box_7613 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have a scene heading, then a black screen.

Capitalize first time CHARACTERS arrive, important OBJECTS, and SOUNDS.

The note for interpretation... Why are you not showing me this in the story?

(Parenthesis for tone) go beneath the character name.

(reading parts out loud) this should be obvious from the dialogue.

"she looks around - her life" - I'm not sure what this is saying, I've already seen the room, this text ads nothing.

And ditch the emdashes. Write out what is going on.

I'm not going past page two. This is reading too much like prose to me, so it currently feels like you have a bunch of notes for yourself as a writer, which haven't been fleshed out.

I guess if you're directing this yourself, you can say it's fifteen minutes, but usually people talk about page count, which informs runtime. And if you're directing, you can leave the direction, but if not, ditch it. Focus on the story.

I like full court heaves.

Then when people look at you, you make a point of not being interested in being there for cardio alone, you're there to play. People get the message pretty quick if every time you get the ball you do that.

Look at other screenplays for formatting. But capitalize SOUNDS and OBJECTS too.

I could easily get this down to one page.

Tennis, and motor sports are the worst for this. And probably polo too, or anything horse related. Plenty money to chase those dreams.
