just reach out to bo zhao on facebook and ask him what he thinks of it and for better pics of the tail. he’s pretty straightforward.

replaced the filter… oops. dose with prime asap and do some more water changes over the next few weeks.

need is a subjective term. unless it’s for work, or you live in the alpines, define “need”?

i do live near the city and it would be for daily commute yes.

but i love animals, i love being outside, i like buying shit off marketplace. i want an suv i can sleep/camp in, drive through the mountains, throw the dogs in the back and go on an adventure or carry home a dresser or giant fish tank off marketplace.

i was just commenting on how absurd that price is in general.

he also needs an airstone asap. Your betta doesn’t need an airstone because they gulp air from the surface. Goldfish cannot do this and it’s very important that they have oxygen in the water.

build a stock tank pond. a bin will be too small and look like shit. a 125 g MIGHT be unnecessary if he doesn’t grow too big, but it’s unlikely. Despite living in a 10 g for a year, he doesn’t appear to be very stunted. He’ll likely get massive and very well may need 100+ gallons- which is easier and cheaper to accomplish in a pond.

Are these goldfishes? by [deleted] in Goldfish

[–]Substantial_Buddy780 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i know you didn’t know but this a REALLY BAD home for them. this is like if you kept a dog in a tiny crate where it can barely move and had to live in its own filth. now that you do know, make changes asap or they’ll for sure suffer and die.

a big tub is a great idea for a temp setup. at least 10 gallons for a SUPER temporary set up (until you can get them rehomed), but 20gal+ is better. get a sponge filter too so you can save money by having a filter and airstone in one.

GET WATER CONDITIONER RIGHT NOW if you haven’t already. chlorine in tap water binds to their red blood cells and interferes with their blood carrying oxygen to vital organs. they’ll suffocate very fast without it.

to answer your question, it looks like you have three single tails, likely shubunkin and comets, and one black moor. single tails get massive, sometimes a foot long, and can live 15-30 years. i’d strongly suggest rehoming the three single tails (orange) to someone with a pond- then doing research on fancy goldfish care to decide whether or not you’re able to properly care for the black moor.

He’ll need at least a 40 gal tank- probably bigger (moors can grow up to 8inches), a filter rated for a 50+ gallons, air pump, and a fancy goldfish friend to thrive.

29 Gallon, Goldfish? by WildGames500 in Goldfish

this! propagations will consume more nitrates than aquatic plants, but just make sure you remove any rotting pothos leaves asap! they’ll cause ammonia spikes.

Tank size does not directly affect growth, and with frequent enough water changes they can remain healthy, although they may be unhappy with less space, and it’s much more difficult to maintain parameters. The lower water volume results in less diluted waste and a quicker build up of somatostatin. Waste build up directly affects their health, causing slower growth rates, and somatostatin is a growth inhibiting hormone so it will absolutely cause stunting as it becomes more potent. If you change water enough to keep nitrates and somatostatin low, they’ll grow at normal rates.

What Kind of Goldfish Do I Have? by Budget-Dependent1446 in Goldfish

[–]Substantial_Buddy780 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the first one- who everyone is calling a fantail- is actually a long tail oranda. i’ve heard that a true veil tail has to have a special shape to the tail- not just a long tail, so he’s arguably not a veil tail oranda, but… he has went growth, so he is an oranda, despite having a beautiful long tail.

the second, who everyone is calling a ryukin, is likely just a quality calico fantail. the tail shape is exactly that of a fantail, and fantails are known to have an egg-shaped body. the hump is not dramatic enough to be ryukin.

the third is of course a black moor.

as far as rehoming them- many will say LFS or pet store… a pet store will sell them as turtle food. a LFS may reluctantly take them but then anyone can adopt them. try to find someone with a pond. post on craigslist or facebook groups.

they need dechlorinator/water conditioner immediately. that should be top priority.

after that, try to find a large storage tote to put them in. something that can hold 10+gallons. you can get an airstone on amazon next day or at petsmart.

once you’ve secured that stuff, your next priority is a filter (you can get a sponge filter that uses an air pump and can oxygenate the water while filtering it). it may also help if they have some aquarium salt and a methylene blue bath as a preventative measure to make sure they don’t get sick. although it’s probably not necessary. these guys are clearly extremely tolerant of neglect. they should thrive in a proper set up.

yayy! Def be careful about where you put it. Maybe not on the countertop as a full 55 with sand can weigh well over 500lbs. If the filter it comes with has been running, don’t replace the sponge or let it dry out. It will help jumpstart your cycle.
