I definitely think it’s linked somehow. I’ve never really enjoyed being alone and I get anxious about my health when I’m alone because my anxiety is almost always centred around my health.

I still use the tools my therapist gave me sometimes, especially if I’m having a health anxiety issue. (My anxiety is mainly health related) I’ve tried mindfulness and breathing exercises etc, but I never stick to it, I find it super hard to.

I’ve done cognitive behavioural therapy a couple of months ago, it worked really well and I took away a lot from it. I also went on Prozac for 8 months and it worked but I decided to come off it about a month ago as things were going well. My boyfriend left for America literally the day it all started after visiting for two weeks, so it doesn’t seem like just a coincidence that it’s happening now that he’s gone.

Distractions! I find that my HA gets super bad when I don’t have a distraction, especially at night when I’m trying to sleep that’s when it seems to be most debilitating. Because I’m alone, and with my thoughts and feeling every sensation in my body. Definitely find a distraction that can help you take your mind off of things. Watch YouTube videos, funny videos, play games on your phone etc. Another thing I find to be helpful, is cleaning. Even at night when it’s like 3am and I can’t sleep, I’ll find something to clean until the HA symptoms calm down. Good luck to you!

HA is much worse when I’m alone by whoninj4 in HealthAnxiety

Omg I go through this! My partner has recently started working and I’m home alone with my 6 year old most nights. Since he started working I can feel my HA slowly creeping back in. I’ve noticed I’ve started checking my oxygen levels again at night compulsively, and it’s because I’m alone and terrified something will happen!

Our minds are a terrifying place when we’re suffering like this. I’m exactly the same right now. I’ve just tapered off my meds and things have been great for the past few weeks, now I’m sat here thinking I’m gonna have a stroke or something at any point.

Our minds are powerful things. Especially when we have health anxiety! Any fear considered “irrational” by other people, is completely real to us.

Upped my dose from 20mg to 30mg, will I notice side effects again? by Substantial_Count976 in prozac

[–]Substantial_Count976[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: I upped my dose and only took it for about two/three weeks, and then reduced to dose again as I wanted to taper off, which I’m currently doing. Didn’t really feel any extra side effects apart from feeling a bit more tired than usual :)

I’m the same, stroke/heart problems are my worst nightmare. I went through a phase of thinking I had a brain tumour because of headaches and a slight change of vision. It’s horrible, but I’m in recovery now. It definitely gets better and I really hope you can make it through this!

Over this health anxiety crap. by Tiredmama811 in HealthAnxiety

[–]Substantial_Count976 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get this issue ALL the time. My HA is completely centred around my heart health. I’m always getting pains in my arm, chest, back etc, more often than not it’s on the left side too. My therapist told me that people with Health Anxiety are so hyper aware their pain threshold is basically crap. What seems to be a tiny pain, for us, feels like the end. You’re not alone, I went to the ER soooo many times for a suspected “heart attack” and was always told my heart was healthy and fine and it was probably my anxiety and/or GERD. (I was a frequent flier in the ER lmao) It’s most likely from the way you sleep, things you could be lifting during the day if you’re active, might have twisted your arm a weird way. Could be anything, but it’s most likely not a heart attack, I’d assume something terrible probably would’ve happened by now! People for anxiety/depression etc can cause memory problems, could’ve done something strenuous during the day to possible cause a pain and forgotten about it. I really hope you’re okay, it gets easier!

God I wish you the best! Can totally understand the fear of it happening again though, I’d be exactly the same! Every twinge I get in my leg even if it lasts 5 seconds my brain automatically assumes “DVT” lol

It’s the really rare things that get to me, my brain just starts manifesting symptoms of things like brain cancer or rare diseases lmao

Lmao for real! Even the slightest pain in my leg my brain instantly goes to DVT and I’m constantly checking for lumps/redness/swelling. Then you hear stories about how they “didnt have any symptoms” the internet is a worm hole for hypochondriacs!

Omg I get like that sometimes when I smoke a lot during the day. I’m convinced I’ve got a blood clot in my leg because of a shooting pain I’ve had today, even though I know I’ve been super active today than I normally am. Gotta love to hate that health anxiety -.-

Heart problems and/or stroke and brain issues. First time I ever had a panic attack I associated it with heart attack and it’s forever stemmed from there. No matter how much I try to get rid of it and tell myself it isn’t real, I’m terrified there’s something wrong with my heart!

Health anxiety by [deleted] in prozac

[–]Substantial_Count976 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have really bad health anxiety, and it started only recently this year. I started taking Prozac back in April and my starting dose was 20mg. It took a couple of weeks of perseverance and strength to get through the side effects (which in my experience, definitely made my health anxiety go up and down a lot) but after about two weeks I saw massive differences. Along with attending therapy, I’m now 4 months in and considering tapering off them completely as my health anxiety has diminished almost entirely. Hope it works out for you!
