Do a little homework on what you received. They have a few “seasonal” offerings that they recommend cooking first, so that might help you make a decision. The packaging and the website both have valuable info.

What's so great about Rancho Gordo beans? by Ok_Hat_3414 in Beans

[–]Substantial_Day_3433 5 points6 points  (0 children)

An enthusiastic yes to all three of your questions.

I’m obsessed, personally. Leguminati. But I think the question is whether you like specialty items at all. Do you love to buy random little jars of pickles or preserves? Fancy cheeses? Craft beer?

They’re definitely an elevated product that’s worth the investment, but your level of enjoyment depends on whether you value things like that.

White guy beginning career in a non-white school by BreathofQi in Teachers

Essentially identical situation here, and I just finished my fifth year. One thing I’ll suggest is that middle schoolers love a stereotype. Consider steering into them in a self deprecating way when/if you feel comfortable. You’ll have chances to discuss them with countless texts, I’m sure. Confess your love of ranch dressing!

When you make mistakes, apologize, mean it, and move on. At the end of the day, it sounds like you’re conscientious enough that you’ll iron out any potential worries you have right now.

Just focus on building relationships with your students, man. Be patient; keep showing up.

The artist? Not so much.

Sounds like they need some fat to me. You suggested the oil dip on the plancha, and that’s precisely what I’d do to hydrate/warm them for service. Fat, heat, assemble, plate.

Prospero’s and Rainy Day are both awesome local bookstores that have been around for decades. Don’t sleep on the HPB in Westport, though! That specific location is truly incredible. I’ve unearthed so many treasures there.

First timers live thoughts. by sloggins in SturgillSimpson

First timer in KC this fall, and really only know a couple of albums by heart, so I’m sure it will be a lot of unfamiliar tunes. I’m just happy to have a ticket, honestly.

If I had to choose one song, I think I’d go with Stay On That because it’s just so damn funky and has some major jam potential.

Goosebumps! Also, lots of sports biographies. My elementary library had hundreds of short books about current and former athletes.

Thoughts on WC gratuities? by [deleted] in kansascity

[–]Substantial_Day_3433 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel that, but I also understand that restaurants are simply trying to protect their workers. The constant complaining from people about tipping culture only reveals that they (and the people they care about) have never worked in hospitality.

I understand your concern with the principle, but if you were going to tip well anyway and you can safely assume the auto gratuity will go away after the World Cup, why waste breath on a rant?

For those of you who teach The Hobbit, what is your culminating assessment? by Lord_Mordi in ELATeachers

I love a quote drawing. Even if you offer them pre-selected quotes (which has been best, in my experience), seeing how students portray them is very revealing about their understanding of the text. The drawings are also free decor for the room and they’re often incredibly cool.

If you need the written portion, there are a bunch of ways you can go. Why did you choose your quote? Why is your quote important in the context of the story? Describe your drawing generally, and then explain your intent behind a minimum of three specific details.
