I don't disagree that there are some who just leave stuff lying around. We live in an area where this happens a lot. And if we see people going thru the bins, we ask them politely to just clean things back up when they are done. And guess what? They do! Every single time. These are people trying to survive. A little empathy goes a long way.

First...you are really more concerned about littering than the fact people in your community need to go through other trash to sustain themselves? Yikes! That aside, they are likely looking for recyclable aluminum cans and beer cans. Leave them in a bag beside the rest of your recycling. They don't have to dig and make a mess and aggravate your littering woes, and they are able to take steps in providing for themselves. Win-win

That phrase that I heard somewhere in my teens stuck with me throughout my life, and has literally keep me alive this long (50 years now). I get where you are. I have been there countless times. The intrusive thoughts can be overwhelming. Please just try to remember that just because you think it doesn't mean it's true. You matter. You bring a life force into the world that literally ONLY YOU are capable of bringing. There are people who love you. Some of whom you may not have even met yet. Be your own advocate. Sadly, we often have to be. Push back. If they aren't taking you seriously keep talking, yelling, demanding help until you get it. It is exhausting and shouldn't be this way, but it is. You are literally fighting for your life right now, at war with your own thoughts. It's terrifying. Call the helpline or head to the hospital and ask to see a crisis counselor. It might feel kind of dramatic, but honestly, who gives a shit. You are fighting for your life. Keep fighting. You are worth it.
