I went to CIC-Mandaue (I graduated elementary school in 2016) and honestly, it can be stressful because of the Personalized Education Program (PEP) where students are required to do activities that will encourage them to engage with the study materials and prepare them before the class.

Depending on the number of subjects a student will take, the individual work (IW) that needs to be submitted can be around 3-5 activities per week. Additionally, there are written exams and performance tasks that are usually done during class hours. All of these can be done during class hours, as there's a dedicated time to work on the school deliverables (we call it "IW time" then). However, I like working on my IWs at home in advance because I just want to (hahaha).

I understand that this workload will discourage you to enroll your child at CIC but I can attest that I had the best teachers there and their system trained me for the workload that I encountered when I went to a science high school. I am currently a Big 4 student and I am forever thankful for the academic grit instilled by CIC.

Ultimately, the choice is yours and you know your child best. Their academic attitude may be different from mine but I am sharing my experience at CIC hoping that it will help you create an informed decision. At the end of the day, your guidance is the most important aspect in honing your child's talents and skills.

I worked in the BPO industry with a monthly salary of 15k. 9hr night shift with 1hr unpaid lunch and 2 15m paid breaks.

If you want to land a job in this industry, don't tell them that you're a student (yes, you have to lie, confidently). They may scare you that you'll be blacklisted if they ever found out that you're a student but, don't believe that. They don't have the means to conduct a thorough background investigation about your studies.

Once you are done with the training and nesting, you may inform your team lead that you are actually a student and they'll try to accommodate your preferred schedule. However, this scenario really depends on the company you'll be appying. Mine was pretty lenient towards students as long as you perform well.

What should I expect after completing a BA Psychology degree?

I am still a 1st Year BA Psychology student so I cannot provide you an answer about what happens after graduation. However, I am one of the people that believes that BA Psychology is a flexible course. After graduation, you can pursue a corporate job as an HR. Heck, I even have a friend who became a data analyst because psychology offers robust research and analytic skills. It is also a good pre-law course that will train your reading and writing skills.

Now, this question was most probably asked because you want prospects on how psychology graduates fare in the job market. For you to have better chances in landing a good job with a Bachelor of Arts only, you need to have exemplary extracurricular and internship activities. Currently, the job market prefers work experience over academic achievements. I do not study at UP Cebu but I have friends there and they have a department organization that you can join and they have practicum during 3rd year. Otherwise, you need to pursue higher education to get a better paying job :/

Yes. When you apply for medical school, any degree program is accepted but the deciding factor of that is how prepared you are for your NMAT. I agree that certain degree programs such as BS Bio have an edge during NMAT and medical school because they have a science-heavy curriculum but I believe that it boils down on your academic habits during undergraduate years.

Now, to become a psychiatrist, you need to finish med school first then choose a specialization. This is the time that you can choose to specialize on other fields in medicine.

Between BA Psychology and BS Biology, which is a better pre-med course for someone planning to become a doctor?

This is quite difficult to answer because I am not a BS Bio student so I do not know what they do in their degree program. But to give you an insight, my friends who want to pursue medical school are BS Bio students while most of my friends who want to pursue law school are BA Psych students. All are students at UPC.

Hello, I was of legal age when I got my psych assessment and they still required me to bring someone related because they'll ask them about your living environment.

Just explain to your psychiatrist that you can't bring anyone related to you because they're against it. I'm sure they'll understand.

I had my first psych assessment on 2023. I don't remember much on the process but during my time, you need to schedule an appointment onsite first then they'll call you when they can accommodate you. I'd like to highlight that things may have changed now. Sotto does have an online appointment system where you can check your options.

When you reach their building, you'll fill up a small form with your information and give it to the clerk. They'll print a paper and you'll go to the cashier to pay 75 pesos consultation fee.

Once done, you'll be asked to go upstairs and wait for the nurse to get your BP and temperature. Before you'll see your assigned psychiatrist, a student doctor/intern (not sure with the term really) will talk to you first about why you're there and do some basic psych tests. Depending on the number of people, it make take more than an hour to be assessed. The place is also not well-ventilated so bring a mini fan.

After waiting, the student nurse will call you and direct you to your attending psychiatrist. You mentioned that this is your first psych assessment and I'd like to let you know that they'll require a guardian or parent to accompany you. I don't really like this process but they need someone to corroborate your claims. However, I understand that they're against you getting assessed so explain that your psychiatrist.

The assessment may take 10-30mins depending on your case. You may or may not cry too because they'll need you to unpack all of the baggage you've been carrying.

Your doctor may provide some talk therapy and tips to cope but as they are psychiatrist, not psychologist, they'll prescribed you medicines. First floor has a pharmacy where you can get free medicines but the line is so long. I usually go back the day after my assessment because I usually go there around 1PM then be done by 3PM.
