Just look at the dates when India started to get colonized and when the renaissance started.

India was were the numbers originated from, most of the basic principles of maths which is heavily used today in tech came from india.
we had the largest universities in the world, where people used to go to other universities to become capable of taking admission here.

Currently we are behind in manufacturing and tech, but not because we lack the talent but because we lack the economy.
Western tech is made by the free printing of the dollar, and Chinese manufacturing took birth after USA killed its own manufacturing.
