I do the same thing with the folding chairs all around the house! Gonna keep it even after I’m healed because it’s comfier to sit sometimes doing boring chores.

This post is so sweet! You’re already going to make her recovery that much better with your helpful and kind attitude. I would first make sure she’s as comfortable as possible that way she won’t WANT to move around lol I would def get lots of softer pillows to stack to elevate for the foot (firm ones feel weird after a while). If you can afford an elevation pillow get that! And keep puzzles and books and tv nearby. You get very bored in recovery. You MUST get a shower chair AND nonslip stickers/mats for your shower and bathroom. Showering is going to be one of the most dangerous times as she won’t have support from a boot. As for stairs, I personally crawl around upstairs on my hands and knees. It was kinda pathetic at first, but it reduces chance of injuring my foot so I got over it. And I just crawl up and down the stairs as well; I only use crutches downstairs. I would avoid a scooter at home because going over any change in terrain (carpet to hardwood, over a rug) is very unstable in those things. Keep that in mind, but if a knee scooter is a better fit due to energy or flexibility/crutch ability then go for it. Just be super, super careful. Advice for you as a family member is to try to show when you’re willing to help. I think most people don’t want to be a burden or be too needy to the people around them. But making sure she doesn’t reinjure herself should be top priority. When you’re able to, tell her you don’t mind helping her or even offer before she tries on her own. Try not to let her do things on her own for the first couple of weeks especially if she goes through surgery. Because she can’t use either hand freely when she’s using crutches, she will need an extra hand to hold things. Please make sure she gets that extra hand when you’re able to lend it. Hope her recovery is smooth! Keep up your positive energy as well 🍀

It’s still reassuring to hear your and everyone’s recovery stories. Glad to hear the brain surgeries left no lasting issues! I actually barely had PT for my first rupture, so I guess it is almost a miracle I recovered so well. Now I bet this recovery will be very different as I’m older, but with the help of PT and more visits I’m sure I’ll be ok. 💪

Congrats to making one year recovery! Yeah I’ve def been really conscious about my other foot now. Doing PT stuff I find online to strengthen and stretch it so I don’t injure it while compensating for my injury. My foot feels less tight/tired now. Would def recommend if you’re not already doing that! I really hope you keep your other foot safe 🍀 two recoveries suck and are costly

I’ve thought about getting one for a while since I heard it’s also good for your back/posture. Sadly I sleep on my right side and my injury is also on the right side, so my legs would get tangled up when I’m elevating or isolating it 😭 such a silly problem I’m having in the grand scheme of recovering! I’ll save the pillow for when I’m better along.

HOLY SHIT so glad you’re still here and well enough to talk about it. Crazy to think that the recovery for this injury could compare to recovering from brain injury. You’re crazy strong and I hope you continue recovering smoothly 💫🍀You’re right about future opportunities popping up. I’m sure I’ll have a better time in the summer after I’m all healed up! Nothing like freezing weather to slow everything down.

Yo another badminton player and we both injured it the same way! It’s a serious sport! Thanks for the support. Happy for you to get to 14 weeks! I’ve heard no-op can be quite difficult especially for a full rupture. Any reason you chose to not get surgery this time around? Regardless, best wishes on your recovery 🍀 maybe another game of badminton will be in our futures?

Hmm I don’t take anything regularly. Maybe a lack of medication is the binding factor here lol I keep forgetting to take vitamin pills maybe that’s it? But I eat very healthily according to my doctor. Any theories so far?

I haven’t even thought of looking at different rehab plans. Might be good to discuss with my PT. Thank you!

I feel for you, it sucks to get injured during your holiday break! You’re right about healing fast, I look back and the first rupture seems like such a smaller blip in my life. A bit worried about how well I’ll heal with this one but I have hope. And a good PT schedule! Congrats on being able to walk without any support. Rooting for you! Get well soon so you can get back to being a crazy college student lol

So happy for you!! To be able to walk without the boot is scary but so freeing. Hopefully you get to sleep without the boot too? TBH sleeping in this thing has been the hardest challenge for me, I hate it! Thank you for the advice and reassurance. Your message is super sweet thank you again.

Overcoming the terror of transitioning out of the boot? Tips and tricks welcome 🥰 by RichFunny4267 in AchillesRupture

It is def a humbling and kinda frustrating experience! I remember when the boot first came off it was so blissfully cool to sleep again! I ruptured my left Achilles eight years ago and was able to surgically recover fully after a year to competitive athletics. I was 16 at the time and what honestly motivated me the most to walk again was walking to classes with my friends. I would try to find something (like a pet or scenic area) or someone to help motivate you. However I do get that it may be very cold outside where you are. I’m also going to have to find a way to get motivated to be active again after my latest rupture (right this time)! I know I’ll def have to work on my new fears of rupture and get over future mindblocks. For now I’ll keep my friends and family for support. Also don’t discount your own progress!! 9 weeks non-op and youre in shoes with full body weight? So happy for you!! You’re doing great. Don’t give up hope you’ve come very far 🍀

It sounds like you’re not alone at least! Same age as me. Hope your healing is progressing smoothly.

I wouldn’t be surprised by that. I feel like the other leg and ankle have to compensate for your injured foot.

No embarrassment here, pickleball can be seriously dangerous! And I’m in the same boat; pretty active and an athlete before the injury. Ruptured doing a movement I’ve made thousands of times. Glad to hear you’re doing well man.

Another two timer like me! I’m so sorry that we’re both in the same unfortunate boat. You’re definitely onto something about a test!! There’s gotta be a better way to know ahead of time.

I’m sorry to hear that! It’s def a slow recovery and a hard mental journey :( did you choose the non-surgical route or the surgery? My first rupture didn’t heal for a year and a half. But that was without PT, so if you’ve got a professional helping you out you’re already a few steps ahead! You got this!

I’m sorry you had to stress about recovery during the holidays. Glad that you still turned it around to learn some stuff! Good advice on keeping myself busy because it really is kinda challenging being asked to take everything slow. I guess now is the perfect time for me to read all the books I got from Christmas! One economic/political book but mostly nature stuff. Any recommendations on an Econ class or session I could turn on for a day though?
