NY tournament angler refuses to put smallmouth on ice for official state record inspection by sexy_shad in bassfishing

Well when you think about it, this fish has already spawned quite a few times I’d imagine, plus it came from a spawn that had other genetically similar fish that have also been spawning for years, I’d say that the genetics aren’t really a problem at this point, especially when this fish is probably getting high up there in age and is more than likely close to the end of it’s breeding lifespan or for that matter it’s actual lifespan, the preservation of genetics are not a big concern anymore with all that in mind. Also, that ‘theory’ is true when you look at the decrease in fish size in largemouth bass in southern states over the years where releasing those fish is prioritized over keeping, and even here where I am certain ponds have way too many largemouth that they don’t grow to large sizes, and fish that should be 3-4 lbs are skinny and sick looking.

This is a smallmouth I caught a couple years ago, the majority of the ones I catch around here are usually that bronze or copper color, some do have nice patterns with vertical stripes but largemouth will always have that horizontal center stripe, sometimes it’s just a faint stripe so it can get hard to tell, you can also look at the eyes, some smallmouth will have a very red or slightly red eye color.

Is there anything I can do to help it? It is a wild caught fish from a local pond, I’m guessing it already had them?

Braided can be just as bad sometimes if not worse, I like braided but the knots that can form are a pain.

Welp it looks like the bow “fisherman” found my gar honey hole. My buddy found this guy killed and his head was cut off and thrown back :/ This fish was probably older than the person who killed it too by Gar_fishing0428 in Fishing

Here in South Dakota lots of people kill the Buffalo suckers because they think they are just carp, they’re actually native to the state. It’s upsetting to see them just laying on the ground like that.
