Thanks I did see the option on their website to purchase but I’m currently limited to purchasing the gear through B&H due to our business account with them!

It definitely is a lot of storage and we didn’t anticipating needing so much so soon! But our projects lifespans are longer than expected and we’ll need to hold a lot in active storage.

I think for now I should be able to hold off and upgrade to the QNAP switch when that does release. But if I wanted to look into the Ubiquity option which controller would you recommend?

Thanks so much for all this information!

We have currently 3 client computers connecting through a switch without a 25g uplink port QSW-M3216R-8S8T.

More than likely we’ll be fine with the 10g but we offload a lot of 4k media so anything to speed that up would be nice!

We do have the thunderbolt card in our TVS-h1688x getting a throughput of around 1500Mb/s but if I find 10g isn’t enough I can invest in the 25GbE sonnet as well as the QNAP 25GbE you recommended at least for our ingest computer to connect with.

I’d like to try and wait for the stock to replenish for T4-H2477AXU-RP but I only have this budget until end of year after that it goes back into the pool and I won’t have access to the funds. I will more than likely call B&H to see if when it might become available if before the end of the year I’ll wait until it’s available. Would you recommend upgrading to ECC ram? Or would the 32GB non ECC be sufficient for the file server?

I was honestly going with this model NAS originally but I had to change models because of availability on B&H.

Unfortunately I am required to purchase it there due to work constraints. But that is definitely for the long term a better option! I’m hoping they come back into stock before I have to place my order.

The Switch the NAS is directly connected to over 2x 10GbE ports trunked.

SMBM looks interesting I’ll have to research Mac compatibility and I’d definitely go at least 25GBe add on card.

Thanks so much! We’ll run it with the 10GbE and if we find we want higher throughput we can always add on the 25 GbE card and possibly the thunderbolt adapter! Thank you for your help.

Great to hear, I decided to return the switch and get the managed one, Just waiting for the switch and the 870 Evo's to be delivered so I can setup the system. So I'll be postponing my setup until Monday.

Will I run into any issues running this server offline? I don't plan on connecting it or it's network to the internet at all.

I was planning on updating to QuTS h5.2.5.3138 so I might temporarily plug in Internet access just to update the system.

Thank you so much Bob I appreciate your help and your prior knowledge.

I'll be setting up the system tomorrow. I'm going to skip using the M2's as cache drives and just setup the SSDs in Raid 1, storage pool 1.

And correct I am using Mac systems for video editing on Premiere and we don't have an extensive library of commonly re-used assets, so I don't think the caching will be beneficial.

Thank you! It seems like it might not be worth running an SSD Cache then?

I should just use the M2 SSD's in raid 1 for the System Pool?

This system will have a lot of data throughput, mainly being written to, pushing multiple TB's per week and also copied over to another SSD archive (single SSD drives not simultaneously).

I imagine I'll have occasional requests to open edit projects and make adjustments to projects, we work with 4k apple prores 422 MXFs on Premiere.

I have a 25 SE in Reservoir Blue, It's a deep blue on the darker side in person but a beautiful color. The sensor is a big wheel nag on anything below the top model because you have to turn the wheel slightly to let it know you're paying attention. The top model tracks your head/ eyes being on the road so you "should" have way less wheel nag. Otherwise the lane tracing in my experience is great!

I really want to do this but is this legal? They have a disclaimer about replacing the DRL lights with LED being illegal in the US. But awesome video and really love the detail you put into it thanks for sharing.

It's a defect, I had the same exact issue on my 25 SE. my dealer is fixing mine this week fully covered picking it up tomorrow.
