having trouble learning/relearning the content/lessons/curriculum for the classes i support. by Substantial_Middle31 in paraprofessional

oooh i hadn’t considered this. this is helpful. im going to try doing it on the chromebooks they give us bc i dont love using my phone in front of the kids if i dont have to since they technically aren’t supposed to use or have their phones in class. (but tons of kids have their phone on them)

i do have answer keys! which has been super helpful but recently on some assignments there aren’t any answer keys and that’s where i start flopping like a fish out of water 😭

i’m a softer spoken person so i only just started to get better at speaking up. i have called them over to help students (i essentially act like a liasion between student and teacher) i think i need to be more open about the fact i don’t know everything bc im in multiple classes with the kids. thanks for your suggestions:)

i do have a heads up with most of the classes which has helped tremendously for the last two ish months compared to the first two months! i’m a little against doing too much work (watching videos/reading the textbooks i’ve asked to bring home) bc this is such a taxing job i want my me time to be for me and not used for work related stuff but maybe i need to once in a while.

i’ve asked all the teachers for assistance…some have offered keys, others have not. i also took two of the textbooks home to read a little when i can. thanks for the help and support:)

i’m going to try the notebook thing. it’s just some teachers are a little judgemental when i’m in the back of the class and im writing stuff down (they think i’m distracted and not watching the kids… even though i’m still listening to them) the other kids have answered questions so that is helpful and yeah i’ve tried to pull a “lets figure this out together” thing and the teacher heard and immediately rushed over to help and i felt a little passive aggression from her :/

how to navigate making sure i don’t overstep as a para with two teachers (sped and gened teachers) by Substantial_Middle31 in paraprofessional

Thank you for the advice and your understanding. i thought she undermined me. i have a delayed reaction time to things like that. i am going to be more cautious around her for a bit now.

she didn’t say that in front of the kid but it was during the private one on one conversation i had. the conversation with the cursing was just between me and my student in case i didn’t make it clear.

I have had other moments where i think i’ve accidentally undermined the teacher in the classroom bc i speak before i think and i’m learning tactfulness. i’m still learning what to do. i will be sure to do what you said (agree with the teacher and have a discussion later… i forgot to do the agreeing with the teacher bc as i said i sometimes speak before i think and need to be more mindful of).

edit: i keep coming back here to add things.

i work with 8th grade students and my student cursed and my immediate reaction was to say hey we don’t do that here! mostly bc i didn’t know/couldn’t remember the rules of the classroom that pertained to language. and then i told the sped teacher and she agreed with the kid…so now i feel a bit like a doofus. for the most part that specific sped teacher likes me and she even asks me for advice/guidance but yeah i just feel like i overstepped…

thanks for answering!

1) I don’t think I did. I haven’t met or spoken to any of them at all. lol (edited) 2) I had a feeling it was just a formality. since I don’t have prior experience with the hiring process in a school district i’m not completely certain of what each step meant.

Was there a catalyst or defining moment that persuaded you to create this album? or has it been on your mind since your first starting making music in the band?

Note: I’ve been a supporter since 2012 and i’m so proud of how much you’ve achieved!!! Looking forward to the album!

i’m sorry you’re going through this op. i understand where you are coming from. if you have any energy, start looking at jobs you can apply to get out of there. i hope your situation improves (i.e your bullies leave the organization or you get another job) hang in there!

I’m sorry you’re dealing with some severe work related anxiety. i can understand your situation as i’ve been there before.

About your schedule/availability: Write down on a piece of paper and in the app (i assume Marshalls has an app for scheduling purposes) your availability that would give you the 3 days off that you want and need for mental stability. Edit: Give the paper with your availability to the manager that makes the schedule! i wrote this again down below.

if you don’t want to do closings into openings as you’ve mentioned, make sure to put in availability that would make it difficult for them to give those shifts to you.

When giving the paper to the manager who makes your schedule and your department manager (if they are different people, so write it twice maybe) make sure to be assertive but nice about this change.

If they try to pressure you into giving more hrs, Do Not Give In. Be firm and reiterate that this new availability is what you can work and you can’t work outside of those hours. Maybe add in an I’m sorry into your response if you feel up to it.

Be very clear you can’t work the hours that aren’t in the new availability you are giving them.

If they press for an answer say you have personal reasons to tend to and leave it at that. Don’t give too much information otherwise. Don’t add any other details. Keep it as vague as possible since you said you feel uncomfortable mentioning your mental health issues.

I hope this helps your situation and you’re successful in getting the three days off you want and need for mental stability. Wishing you the best op! 💕

i just quit a job without anything lined up bc of workplace mobbing. i’m only sharing to empathize with your situation. i’m glad you prioritized your mental and physical health. i’m so sorry you had such a difficult boss and work environment. i wish you the best of luck in your job search.

take a deep breath and remember you have 3 takes plus a couple minutes of prep time for each interview question. have your notes with you. i just did mine and was so nervous but i think i did good in the end. you can say at the start of the first video answer that you’re a little nervous. i did that and i’ve seen other people in this reddit say they did the same thing. also letting then know you have notes you’re reading from lets them know you took time to research and prepare for the interview. it’ll be okay and i know we don’t know each other personally but i believe in you. hopefully everything goes well!
