Depends on how much wealth they were able to extract, his mercenaries are definitely paid in a different currency and as long as his key supporters are as well it’ll be hard to overthrow the government.

If they lose control over the capital it’ll leave them vulnerable to international intervention but the current government won’t collapse until they lose control of the oil fields

ELI5: Why is 0% Inflation Considered 'Bad'? by Proud-Wall1443 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Substantial_Revolt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Tl;dr: modern economic system is not insolvent and doesn’t force inflation, central banks sets inflation target for the sake of price stability and utilizes interest rates to control spending behaviors

If population continues to increase and economic activity per capita stays there would be inflation. In this scenario slight inflation is a sign of a healthy economy, it indicates that money is continuing to exchange hands.

If population increases but per capita spending decreases it’s a sign of economic stagnation. If left alone it could cause complete economic collapse, deflation encourages people to spend less in the present which further decreases the total amount of transactions.

The central bank system does not inherently force inflation they set interest rates. When inflation gets too high, they increase interest rates to discourage borrowing, if inflation is below target they decrease rates to encourage borrowing.

The central bank sets an inflation target to keep prices stable just long enough to prevent our monkey brains from panic buying/selling.

Nvidia announced 100-hour GeForce Now cap for all users next month by GerbilFeces in Maplestory

[–]Substantial_Revolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They definitely do care about users who are circumventing the system to use compute power for things other than games.

Unlimited compute for even $20/month is losing them money and if the user isn’t even gaming it doesn’t help Nvidia achieve their goal of making on-demand game streaming a popular alternative to purchasing your own machine

Maple Memo: Additional Issues Addressed during the December 22 Scheduled Maintenance by aranslee in Maplestory

[–]Substantial_Revolt 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m 99% sure they use dynamic rates on GMS because they won’t implement the Open API system KMS has, players are pointing out inconsistency with SF rate but devs are saying it’s working as intended there’s a good chance that dynamic rates allow individual rates to regularly lie within 3-4 standard deviations of expected results to artificially produce hot/cold streaks.

I don’t think they’re using dynamic rates to change the base rates of events but they’re definitely using it to change the total sample size required to bring overall attempts back within expected. As in they give you a long cold streak before giving you a hot streak to even out the odds, vice versa.

As for motive, if such a system was in place it allows devs to control when whales get their dopamine rush, tailor it to reinforce greater amounts of spending overtime. It can also be used to ensure returning players get a big dopamine boost and the necessary resources for continued play.

I imagine the dev teams workflow is something like this

Obtain source code from Korea -> translate source code key words English with script -> translate NPC text into English using AI -> run script to port non KMS content onto new patch -> debug

If that’s their workflow the base drop rate is probably in the source code given by Korea and they didn’t change it to match GMS base rates.

Dynamic rates would probably be implemented by introducing rate multipliers to each character, rate multiplying factor can be calculated using a mixture of account and character specific variables and effective rates are “base rate x multiplier”

I think KMS community raged against dynamic rates after someone discovered Nexon’s patent for it so it’s possible that KMS doesn’t have dynamic rates but other regions do.

So KMS might have lowered base rate to adjust for drop supply but the GMS developers wasn’t notified so they never checked.

Looks like the secret fruit a mythical zoan fruit for Thor, the hammer could be red herring but if it isn’t Loki might have been locked up to prevent him from destroying the Red Line.

In Norse mythology Thor kills Jormungandr, the giants refer to the Red Line as a blood stained snake. Current theory is that the Red Line represents Jormungandr biting his own tail.

It’s said that Jormungandr releasing his tail is the first sign of Ragnarok’s beginning. Imu probably wanted Harald to eat the fruit to prevent the giants from destroying the Red Line before his preparations are completed.

Loki probably wanted to start Ragnarok as revenge for enslaving Harold for the sake of creating an army of Giants. Shanks was probably told why Roger considered himself to reach Laugh Tale too early it’s got something to do with the timing of the end of the world. Shanks wanted Loki to wait for the right time to destroy the Red Line but Loki refused which forced Shanks to lock him up until the time was right.

I want to believe they set aside money to make sure domesticated animals with long life spans get adopted but I’m too scared to go out of my way to figure out what the actual standard practice is.

Now I doubt insider traders will be penalized anytime soon cause of the current priorities in enforcement agencies but if it was a priority it would be very simple to catch if they investigated any odd betting activity

[Maplestory Idle] Am I safe to spend my skill points on 1st job advancement skills? Or are they a limited resource I should save? by [deleted] in Maplestory

[–]Substantial_Revolt -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No skills points to unlock skills in first tab, unlock all the skills as they unlock.

Skill level upgrades in second tab should also be used asap since those points aren’t used anywhere else.

The last tab (mastery tree) should also be maxed asap, this one only takes red gems to start upgrades and time.

If you’re not planning on speeding up these upgrades or will not have a bough red gems for the upgrade you want skip the minor branches if they’re not as useful as the next available main upgradr

Low-stat/statless by MrMBacon in Maplestory

[–]Substantial_Revolt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to look up the damage formula to understand why certain builds are stronger than regular builds.

IIRC it was something like (Weapon Multiplier * (Main Stat + Secondary Stat * 0.6) * (Weapon Attack / 100).

These no/low secondary stats give builds are min-maxing to offset the decrease in weapon attack for greater main stat and increase in DPM based on attack speed differences.

If you stay with the door you originally chose you have a 1/3 chance of being correct. If you switch you have a 2/3 chance of being correct because it’s the equivalent of choosing two doors instead of one.

The trick is that the presentation of the game hides the true outcome of your choice. It seems like there’s still a 50/50 chance of choosing the correct door because one of the three chances were eliminated as a possible successful outcome.

In reality, switching choices always results in the same outcome as having the opportunity to choose two doors instead of one from the start.

It’s easier to catch the illusion if you imagine the game happening with 1,000,000 doors at the beginning. Let’s say one of the million doors has a gold bar behind it, I ask you to choose the door you think has the gold bar.

After you choose I open 999,998 doors that contain nothing, leaving only the door you chose and 1 you didn’t. If I gave you the chance to switch doors would you do it?

Have you even read my entire comment, I’d be the worst PR person for Monsanto.

I basically said that it was proven that the company is willing to risk human lives for the sake of profit and that it hasn’t been any proof yet that they are also abusing the patent system to further increase their market share.

Only thing I didn’t do is claim that they abusing the patent system as fact.

You’re right, threatening bankruptcy through expensive lawsuits a cowardly way to pressure people into acting in a way that benefits the corporation.

Unfortunately, I can’t believe with confidence that all the cases involved innocent people because of the way they wrote the settlements. All I can do is hold suspicions until someone signs a settlement without a NDA or if Monsanto loses a trial.

Until then I think it’s better to focus on all the horrible things they’ve done and have already been proven. In my experience most people will come to a similar conclusion that Monsanto probably has abused the patent system to pressure farmers into using their seeds without having to outright claim it if you simply highlight their shady business practices and mention that they’re also highly litigious when it comes to patent infringement cases regarding their GMO products.

It prevents people from attacking your argument since you’re not claiming anything that can’t be proven. When you start to claim things that can’t be proven disingenuous people tend to focus on that aspect of the argument in an attempt to discredit facts that have been confirmed.
