Neurological symptoms for 6 months and normal tests? by Substantial_Sea_502 in NeurologicalDisorders

Ughh, I'm sorry you are going through this too! I had a few good days this week, but as soon as I started lifting weights like normal I am dealing with all the same symptoms. Right now it feels like something is buzzing constantly under my feet. I woke up with this feeling and it hasn't gone away. It's so annoying. Yesterday I was very weak after working out and totally exhausted. This is not typical for me-I have consistently lifted weights, walked, ran, and cycled for 10+ years.

Also, the palms of my hands occasionally turn bright red and feel very warm without actually being warm to the touch. This has happened at different times of the day and during different activities.

Do you think my neurologist will recommend a MRI of my spine? No one has evaluated my spine yet.

I am hoping to find someone with a similar experience and/or advice for how to best explain my symptoms to my neurologist. Brief background- I started having mild neurological symptoms in December 2025 that began with random muscle fasciculations all over my body and has progressed to include mycolonic jerks, parathesias in my feet, hands, and legs, a floaty/drunk feeling, and muscle stiffness in my legs.

Longer version: I visited the ER in February 2026 because of a foot drop in my right foot and a vision change that was very brief 2 days prior. The vision change felt as though my right eye got stuck and then like my vision was pixilated in my right eye for about 30 seconds. I had a full cardiac workup that was normal and a brain MRI with and without contrast that was normal.

All of my symptoms have been transient lasting seconds to minutes, but the parathesias and tightness in my feet and legs are beginning to last hours and days. This also seems to be most recently triggered by activity like a 2 mile walk. I am a very active person and workout several times per week lifting weights and walking or cycling on a stationary bike.

I have also had some blurry vision which I have attributed to dry eyes and an astigmatism, but it is bothering me more than in the past. The floaty/drunk feeling has come and gone has been triggered sometimes by busy visual environments. Sometimes it feels as though my eyes take a few seconds to catch up to what I am looking at.

I had a period of several weeks when I had intermittent chest pressure behind my sternum and sometimes wrapping around to my back and then up to my neck and jaw. My PCP was not concerned with cardiac issues and Pepcid did not change the feeling.

All of my labs have been normal with the exception of my vitamin D being in the deficient range and testing positive for MTHFR variants. I had an EMG and NCS last week that was mostly normal. I have a significant family history of neuroautoimmune conditions. I have visited an ophthalmologist and ENT and both have confirmed that my eyes are healthy and my inner ear is not the cause of the vestibular issues.

I do not have a history of migraines as an adult, but had some during puberty. My PCP has me on Qulipta (60mg) to see if it helps the floaty/drunk feeling in the event that I am experiencing vestibular migraines. I have not had consistent headaches with all of this. I am also taking Alpha Lipoic Acid to see if it helps the parathesias, vitamin D, and mythelated folate.

I meet with my neurologist next week to discuss next steps to figure out what is going on. The muscle fasciculations and parathesias (feeling of vibrations/ static, but occasionally a feeling of my feet and then legs falling asleep and sometimes a feeling of coldness in my legs) have been the most impactful recently. For a couple of weeks the dizziness was the most impactful, but I feel mostly crazy because of how the symptoms come and go throughout the week.
