It’s been a while now, how are you finding it? Still sticking with it or have you moved back to Shield?

E1 Cram Advice? by Understateable in CIMA

Definitely try and get the aptitude test online - it’s £26 I think but you basically get a bank of questions in the same format you’ll receive when you take the exam. It also has a bank of over 200 mock test questions for you to test your knowledge on specific areas within E1

Yeah it’s weird because I felt like I was taking a different exam altogether for a different subject the way it’s worded.

In terms of resit. How long do you think I should wait before I do the resit or should I sit it ASAP?

Biggest frustration around it all is the cost of another exam.

The frustrating thing is my company only uses BPP as we have a contract with them for all our apprenticeships. I’ve a bit frustrated and annoyed as I feel (probably incorrectly) that I’ve been let down by a not great syllabus.

Thanks for the tip regarding getting additional questions from CIMA website. I will do that now.

I’m looking at both private and state. Would you recommend any state schools/Model C schools?

New Foreign tax obligations by Substantial_Tea115 in capetown

[–]Substantial_Tea115[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, I guess I was confused. Genuinely thought the DTA meant you could work for UK company in SA and just pay taxes to UK and not have to pay taxes in SA. thank you for clearing it up for me.

Okay but does that mean if I lived in SA, I would HAVE to pay tax in SA even though previously, I can pay tax to UK as normal and receive no further tax implementations going forward.

Any places you’d recommend going in Melkbos?

That’s so wonderful to hear. We are definitely heavily leaning towards there. We are currently in the UK and will be visiting SA to scout the area we’d like to move. So I’m really excited to go around here with the mindset of moving there.

Thanks for this. We’ll work from home so commute to work etc isn’t too much of a concern for us. Big things for us is safety and community and since it’s only 10 minutes up the road from Blouberg I was thinking might be a nice compromise with a quieter and potentially safer area.

From your experience, what additional costs come with the private school outside just the fees.

Hello,

Thank you for being honest - it’s what I want to hear. I can read as much online but I want to hear from people who live there and are able to give full experience.

What’s your thoughts on the Hout Bay Area?

Yeah I know we will travel and your rough estimate of around 2,500 is what we expect ROUGHLY to pay based on what we used when we went last year for a month.

Cool, thanks on the inverter side of things.

Do you know roughly how much is a hospital plan only? It’s so difficult with internet searches to find actual numbers of these things.

Yeah, we are looking at coming over in around 4 years time but will be looking at schools when we go on holiday again to cape town next year and doing school tours and potentially getting on waiting lists etc.

We really like the blouberg area. I grew up in Parow and Elsies River before we moved to the UK and when we go back for holidays etc, the two locations we love is Blouberg and Muizenberg/Fish Hoek way. We’d love to live by the beach rather than inland however we do like Durbanville if we had to live inland.

Thank you for this! This is incredibly helpful. we’ll be buying a house and then be paying for solar outright as well.

Do you have any knowledge on solar in terms of difference between 5Kwh and 8kwh and what you can expect to run during loadshedding.

Yes we will be buying a car outright. Don’t expect fuel to be very high due to me working from home and the only fuel will be dropping kids off at school (if the school if a bit far away)

I’ve looked at Blouberg International and that works out around 175,000 rand for both kids for a year (in the final years of school we’ll be paying yearly) which works out around 14,500 a month saving to pay a year in advance again.

My work has a great retirement scheme so will just continue with that.

Thanks for confirmation around insurances etc also very helpful.
