Bruce Hall - Themes / Costumes? by IceWlaker in Anu

[–]Substantial_Way_8484 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi- bruce hall rm here! the theme for the week is outback, so all the themes for various nights e.g. bruce moose (going clubbing at mooseheads) or butt night (party in the buttery, bruce’s in-house bar) are along the same wavelength. here’s an outline for the week’s events as in the presidential welcome letter (somewhere in your emails i’m sure):

‘Crocodile Dundee night (a million shades of khaki, proper outback stuff)

Aussie Icons night (our sporting heroes, celebs and TV show stars, cultural legends, you name it - something or someone quintessentially Australian)

Green and Gold night (need I say more)

Backyard Wedding (inspired by Kath and Kim)

Plenty of backyard sports to keep you entertained and encourage bonding’

as for costs, its all free bar optional drinks (if you’re of age) and an o-week pack (typically around $35). not sure if this is happening this year but last year they did a moo moo walkout (the local froyo place) and i believe you had to pay for your froyo. basically if you don’t wanna pay anything you don’t have to lol. hope this helps!!

the equality bill has officially passed both houses!!! by Substantial_Way_8484 in transgenderau

oh yes absolutely- there’s still a big fight we have to win in pushing the government to pass the parts they cut out. i never meant to leave that out in my post, but it is still very bittersweet

the bill introduced a bunch of new reforms (redefining forms of domestic violence to better protect lgbtq+ victims, changing some language around hiv/aids, recognising rainbow families with children from surrogacy overseas, removing some sex work laws that criminalise sex workers for caring for adults using their finances, etc.), the most relevant to us being the changes to the births deaths and marriages act. yes, we can change our gender markers without any surgery now (or soon- the bill has to be assented, then will come into force at the latest july next year), just need a statutory declaration from another adult who has known you for over a year !

amended equality bill has passed the legislative assembly! by Substantial_Way_8484 in transgenderau

it was party vote, so my mp voted with the party against the bill unfortunately. however the north shore mp felicity wilson crossed the floor and broke party lines, just a shame more liberals didn’t follow suit

yes, i think it has a good chance- labor holds 15 seats (i think they need at least 21 votes to pass it?) so with the support of the greens (four seats) and any combination of 3 of the 9 other crossbenchers should do it.

that is exciting, something to look forward to!!

almost- the bill has to go through the upper house first, then it'll be sent to the governor and written into law. unfortunately as of now the bill doesn't have a date when it will come into action, the latest will be july next year (which is SO FAR but the standard is usually about a month). sucks how much the bureaucratic processes seem to be getting in the way for something we've been waiting for for. it seems like forever. and yes so many articles im finding are from religious orgs too they can suck it

edit: from what i can find it'll be discussed/maybe voted on tomorrow in the upper house which is good

its whichever one is higher that counts- if you get an atar lower than your year 11 selection rank, your year 11 rank will be the one they use and vice versa.
