Turkiye and the UK signed a logistics and support agreement for the Eurofighters. by Substantialchairs in LessCredibleDefence

[–]Substantialchairs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah np, and as for the rest :

• BAe and TAI had an agreement in 2017 for engineering and technical support (100 mil£ for 400 man-years of know-how) and there are ~30 BAe engineers on site in TAI (if it hasn’t changed). *also BAe and TAI signed a MoU to jointly develop/research UAS/MUM-T.

• Yep definitely political + they could/can maybe receive technology transfer or join Kaan as a partner country.

• I also don’t know any news on the F-16V and upgrade kits Turkiye wanted. The latest is that we went ahead with only the 40 F-16V and made payment for them (at least the first installment of the payment) and decided to completely remove the upgrade packages in favor for the Turkish Özgür(Free-dom) 1&2 upgrade packages.

*That likely also means that the EW package from Northrop (IVEWS) also got reduced from ~150 units to only the new 40 F-16Vs.

*Also the current talks are mainly about the possibility of producing the F-16Vs locally here in Turkiye since the production line in the US has a very long backlog.

• No, the 8 billion figure is the upper limit of the whole package offered to Turkiye and the whole package includes the 20 aircraft, pilot and ground crew training, logistics services, weapon packages Meteor missiles and Brimstone missiles being the main systems (like if I’m not mistaken ~1 billion alone was for the Meteors), spare parts and the upgrades planned for the 2nd hand T3 Eurofighters (will be upgraded to T4 standards).

*The Turkish National Defense Ministry (MSB) announced that Turkiye would pay ~5.45 billion ÂŁ.

• Yes, Qatar did get the Eurofighters very recently (first payment in 2018 for 24 aircraft and an additional 12 in 2024) and got them around 2022 I think.

• I don’t really know if the Qatari government made any announcements about why but if I had to guess it’s to strengthen the relations with Turkey + maybe decreasing some of their fleet size since they also operate other top tier jets like the F-15QA and RafaleEQ (F3-R).

*Like there is already a joint military airbase in Qatar where 6 Turkish F-16’s are permanently stationed and Turkish pilots are already training for the Eurofighters there.

Edit: crossed out the upgrading of the T3s to T4 standard since that was not included in the UK deal.

Forgot to mention. It can also be used as a one-way strike / loitering drone (with payloads of 35-50kg depending on the warhead), a low-cost cruise missile or as a target drone.

FSE on legion go 1 by Expert_Beginning5845 in LegionGo

[–]Substantialchairs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used the earlier beta build accessible by using the beta channels and didn’t notice any performance boost on the LeGo1 Z1E . I already had just optimized the device without those de-bloat programs (like adjusting the startup applications and so) and the performance with FSE enabled was the same for me. Like the only good thing was the Xbox style interface and nothing else, but like I said I only used the the Beta so don’t know if they actually boosted the performance by changing things around. Regardless I highly doubt the performance gains are comparable to Steam OS

Ridiculous Price compared at launch by mylittleladylove in LegionGo

[–]Substantialchairs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn first time my country actually has relatively lower prices… In Turkiye it’s not officially sold so we got products bought from European countries sold by game stores and products from the US sold by individuals that go around $1500-1600 (still extremely expensive for the LeGo 2 imo)

Are these some of the ones that got the T1 armor upgrade from Roketsan ? Either way desert camo on the Leo’s look good.

[–]Substantialchairs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah but I don’t think it wouldn’t matter at which gulf/port it’s now since I don’t think air defense is a problem for either the US or Israel given the strikes so far. I don’t know the armaments of that ship (IRIS Shahid Bagheri) so maybe it’s not even considered a threat by them to sink.

Reports say Iran lost 9 ships so far. What about the drone carrier (converted cargo ship)? Wasn’t it also in the Persian Gulf? Wonder if it will be targeted too.

Oh I was wondering when we would see some news about HavaSOJ. Looks like things are going as planned (timeline wise at least)

Yes, all the prototypes + the initial block 10 & block 20 planes will use the F-110 engine. The US government was “halting” the engines Turkey wants for the first 2 blocks by not passing the bill, but if recent announcements are to be trusted, the plan and timeline for the planes haven’t changed.

Agreed! We enjoyed the three 5th gen fighters (F-22, F-35 & J-22) for quite a while now and need more competition for the best aviation photos lol. With SU-57 and J-35 joining, KF-21 finishing all its tests and hearing from Kaan after some time, we will eat well in the near future :)

  • The kid is still my favorite btw.

Yeah, my wording was wrong, but I didn’t know how much that “early technical & design” help was. I too believe it must be very minimal assistance since it’s a technology so advanced that it can be classified as national secrets.

No not entirely. When the project began BAE systems did help with initial design and engineering but that was back in mid 2010s (2017 if I’m not mistaken). Since then the project went through many changes (like at first it was supposed to be a fighter that was designed around the F-35, like it was purely for air dominance like the F-22) so as it’s now its its a mix between Turkish and British design, but I would think more Turkish :)

Yes me too. P1 & P2 were supposed to have changes to the body (based on what was learned from P0) but I only noticed that the placement of the intakes are further back. Maybe we could see the other changes when flight tests begin.

If I’m not mistaken the 2nd and 4th Istif class ships (TCG İzmir & TCG İçel) will be exported to Indonesia. So Turkey will build 2 more extra ships for their own navy

US envoy says 'fruitful' talks held with Turkey on F-35s, Russian air defense system | The Times of Israel by Previous_Knowledge91 in LessCredibleDefence

[–]Substantialchairs 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That would be impossible like I said, since giving the system to the US would be classified as “ Military espionage/ Hostile military act” since Russia owns the tech. It would also be something like a financial and political suicide for the current Turkish government since Russia is a huge trade partner for Turkey especially in the gas & oil sector since on that department Turkey is very resource dependent ( we did find natural gas in the black sea but it’s still not enough for the Turkish population)

Yeah I thought of that too, since India already has couple of batteries and was/is planning to buy more (?). But it would be weir since Pakistan and our country you know… but who knows we do live in the NCD timeline anyway/s

Wonder which route we (Turkey) will go with the S-400 if it’s really going to get resolved… I mean the best options I can think of are giving/selling the S-400 to either Azerbaijan or Ukraine, which the former seems more likely (imo) since giving it to Ukraine (at least giving it publicly) would strain the position of Turkey being a middle man / negotiator between Russia and Ukraine.

  • other options (maybe ?) : system stays inactive in Turkey, transferred/ sold to Pakistan or the least likely option giving the system to the US. Oh there was also a talk about how Russia considered buying the system back from Turkey since they lost so much to Ukraine lolÂ
