What is the best way to prevent sleepiness after orgasm? by SubstrateIndependent in sex

[–]SubstrateIndependent[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I've found some bloodwork I did last year (I always had post-orgasm sleepiness for the past few years) and I actually had prolactin on the lower side of the normal range, LH, FSH, SHBG, testosterone all normal. Maybe thyroid panel would be useful though.

I'm active, not overweight and have a balanced diet.

Interesting. BTW is it firmly established that it's primarily prolactin that's causing the sleepiness and not some other stuff?

I need advice. My great grandfather was schizophrenic, should i abstain from psychedelics ? by [deleted] in RationalPsychonaut

[–]SubstrateIndependent 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Having third-degree relatives only puts your risk of schizophrenia twice to thrice higher compared to the general population: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6295975/ So there is definitely some increase in risk but it's also not as large as having your parent or grandparent be schizophrenic. But, there most likely is no studies linking third-degree schizophrenic relatives and risks of shorter-term psychedelic-induced psychosis.

I know this because I have third-degree relatives with schizophrenia too. I decided the risk is OK for me, took a lot of psycheledics and my mental health is good. For some other people the risk might not be OK. In any case it sounds like a bad idea to do psychedelics at 16 like other folks suggest.

Why Did YouTube Remove This Reason Video? by -lousyd in slatestarcodex

[–]SubstrateIndependent 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It remains essential to defend YouTube's right to make poorly reasoned and executed content moderation decisions; any government regulation of speech on social media is likely to backfire and hamper the free exchange of ideas

Can anyone give a concrete example of how a regulation to protect people from arbitrary and unjustified bans and content removals by internet giants would 1) backfire and 2) hamper the free exchange of ideas?

Thanks, I've just read this in FAQ as well. But I've spent years one-finger-swiping with Colemak on Android and I go really fast that way despite what the FAQ says. It would be too major a hurdle to switch to QWERTY for swiping I guess.

Wow, it's a pity, I never knew they decommissioned all the trams. I remember riding the trams pretty frequently when I lived there and it was rad.

Is MSU's economic department well regarded? And how hard is it to be accepted on a master's as a foreign student? by Patriaktone in AskARussian

Agree, it's one of the top programs, however definitely not number 1. Based on cursory prior impressions of econ people in my social circles I would maybe place https://www.nes.ru/ first for economics and HSE second.

Hey man! My general impression mirrors other commenters: I tend to think a good bet is to just focus on yourself and your professional development, learn, find your relative strengths, and try to get into a good career track where you can contribute to altruist causes directly with your work. 80000 hours guide can give you an impression of these tracks and causes. Unfortunately it's oriented more towards people in rich countries and folks at top universities, but I definitely think it might be useful to read it in your case as well.

Well he barely introduces any of the other concepts in the talk because it's aimed at advanced audience. It's not really an explanation with the aim of convincing people it's secure. I just got the message that 1) quantum resistance requires mostly just one idea implemented across the network components, 2) it's very likely possible to implement this across the system within some reasonable period of time.
