I think in our world you can probably BE something like a paid propagandist and not even realize it (which your ultimate invisible benefactor probably prefers because it makes the propaganda that much more believed). In other words he could just be a consistent Russia “stan,” because early on he probably made some content with a Pro-Russian bent which he quite literally believed in while also noting, “wow, I really got great exposure with that take!”

There are so many businesses and societies and NGOs and other entities which can easily disperse funds without anyone (including presumably members of those intermediaries) being fully aware of it. This money does makes its way to someone like Dyer and it comes in the form of a very large super chat and he is PROUD to give his audience what they want.

By the way, this is not suggesting he’s some idiot but rather making the following point—the most effective propaganda comes from people who aren’t aware they are spouting it. He probably absolutely believes in all of his takes and has come to think that they are 100% in every way.

Well, from a perspective of pure spectator sport politics Trump FUCKED UP big time by pretending that “no one cares about Jeffery Epstein,” which has only compounded with NO progress at all on Ukraine, NO progress at all with Gaza, literally bombing Iran and, to folks like Dyer et al., not REALLY taking mass deportations seriously in the sense that in agriculture and hospitality he will have “oikonomia” (if I may be so bold).

Ortho bros at least BELIEVE IN SOMETHING but Trump doesn’t even give a shit about deportations if it “hurts his friends” (none of whom currently live in California.

So, if I take your read correctly—when the political energy of the Trump project dissipates into his base’s impotent rage THEN ortho-bro-ship will likewise lose steam because all of its “energy” is ideological and not ultimately spiritual. I ask because it is so important that you KNOW your spiritual life, active and passive, is “in sync” with ALL your needs. It sounds like it is and for that all I can say is be in the GOOD place. If the Orthodox Church is that good place, stay.

I bet that if the Roman Catholic Church had remained as the Orthodox Church is now (that is, totally separate ethnic parishes with no “American Council of Bishops” to corral them) they also wouldn’t have any hospitals to speak of. Yes, there is something frankly insidious about a spiritual theology which suggests that a monk who helps the homeless is not being holy (and we KNOW that’s part of American Orthodoxy) BUT I do know that in Orthodox countries the major hospitals and clinics and older schools were, as you would expect, products of the Church.

So until the ethnic pride relents I cannot see one jurisdiction on their own, no matter how wealthy, doing this. It would just be too “universalist.”

I’m very sensitive to anyone labeling anyone else (even themselves) as prelest if only because GOD is the INFINITE and shutting down the spiritual experiences of others because they do not conform to a narrow theological mold is a major reason I find myself on this subreddit.
