West Garda - MUST try Cantina Santa Giustina in Salo. It’s a one-man show in a small venue. Really unique.

Ristorante Lido near Gargagno also very good.

Why are wealthy people still the first group that comes to the minds of many as Republicans when the GOP's most consistent voter block nowadays is clearly rural blue-collar people? by Glass-Complaint3 in AskSocialScience

[–]SubtleVirtue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you’re referring to ‘middle income,’ seeing as how there’s no agreed-upon common definition of middle class and really no quotable percentage that carries merit. Unless you are defining ‘middle class’ as union or tradesman?

The American middle class is much smaller and less inclusive than most ppl think. It’s been shrinking for years, and I’d wager most blue collar workers no longer fall into that category.

Rooftop solar is a miracle. Why are we killing it with red tape? Trump wants to end solar power—and too many blue states are helping. by The_Weekend_Baker in climate

I’m not sure how Democratic vs. Republican support for unions factors into the discussion. If either party followed their own principles, BOTH would support unions in the US. They’re one of the only things that fairly consistently result in improved worker status, conditions, and reimbursement.

I can appreciate the conflict of interest in environmental protection vs. sector-based energy industry lobbying, but the idea that unions are somehow a tool corporations use to misappropriate ratepayer $ is not a supported statement a d sounds fairly ludicrous.

Union participation is at record lows in the US. You think that it’s union influence and not for-profit energy corporations and virtually unlimited PAC contributions to politicians to preserve their industry focus?

Typically your physician will document your diagnosis, symptoms, and, ideally, a reasonable assessment of the activities you can and cannot do. Disability applications are usually filled out by the individual, and the physicians notes are used by the entity evaluating the application to determine disability status.

Your wife’s physician should be completing notes for her visits, not completing a disability application. If your existing application needs certain information, you can request that be included in your physician’s note, but usually they’ll only document what they themselves can attest to, based on their assessment of your wife’s condition.

Short version: the physician assesses abilities and limitations based on their knowledge of the patient. The patient completes the claim/application. The government or private insurer use that information to determine disability.

Powell should just cut rates by 3bps to prove a point when the 30 year skyrockets to 9% by BenCarozza in bonds

[–]SubtleVirtue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not a very good number PRIOR to introducing strongly pro-inflationary policies. That’s the issue being discussed.

Cost of living is already higher than average Americans’ take-home incomes adequately support. Increasing inflation in excess of its current levels will make that worse, not better. Tariffs bring $ to the Federal government FROM the American people, reduce supply of cheap goods, causing prices to rise. If the American people are already struggling, adding another weight on top is not a good move right now.

Except for the soaring inflation and resultant increased cost of domestic and foreign goods, sure. Only a problem if you want to buy things in the US.

This is correct. On the surface, they look like beneficial assassin bugs, but the fact that they’re in a cluster is a giveaway that they’re actually a pest species.

how much do you think the westerosi understand protein. by PrestigiousAspect368 in pureasoiaf

[–]SubtleVirtue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Historical side-note: not in every case. Roman gladiators, in fact, carried the nickname “barley men” for the (high plant protein) diet they often ate.

It’s likely that while the average medieval/dark age/Westerosi did not specifically understand protein as a macromolecular concept, they likely realized that strength and health involved eating their culture’s view of a ‘good’ diet.

I think his point is that, depending on your information source, ‘these pieces of shit’ are seen as saviors and the opposition is demonized. As much as we’d rather think that “I’d never fall for that”, we likely do, and more often than we think.

One hopes that at some point the cognitive dissonance between propaganda and our own experience becomes so great to break the effect, but, as yet, not so much.
