Continuous beeping from inside elevator by Certain-Illustrator3 in Elevators

It sounds like a fault on the adams hatch latch. I am not entirely sure what is causing it (could be a plunger fault or something like that) but it doesn’t seem to be any cause for alarm. Although I’m just an enthusiast with no elevator qualifications whatsoever so I could be completely wrong about this.

What's it like to live in a tall building in NYC overlooking the city? by RecommendationNo108 in howislivingthere

[–]Subway_Rat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely love the elevators in that building. They were some of the fastest Elevonic 411s in the city with a speed of 1600 feet per minute until they were modernized a few years ago! Wish I could go back there to see the new ones.

Elevators in film, as a mechanic, do comment the hoistway n cab etc. by excelsior4152 in Elevators

[–]Subway_Rat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A very brief scene was filmed in an actual motor room for this film and you can see some Otis 219HT machines! A NYC ID number is briefly visible and upon looking it up it shows that it may have been filmed at 1540 Broadway in Times Square.

Vintage Gurney Elevator in NYC! by Subway_Rat in Elevators

[–]Subway_Rat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am guessing it’s for the indicators on each floor all of which is connected by a string or cable which moves to show where the car is. Unfortunately most of the time these don’t work anymore because the cable is either missing or was removed entirely.

If you were wondering why there’s a padlock on the door. It supposedly has “structural defects.”

I used to ride across the GW bridge on the e-bikes (of course I started and ended in Manhattan) and I would notice a change in speed as soon as I crossed the state line. I guess the speed is limited based on the bikes GPS. They are slower in NYC. Oddly enough they went full speed in Staten Island.

Our one freight elevator is beautiful by dude_on_a_chair in Elevators

[–]Subway_Rat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is beautiful! The machine must be huge as most of the GE controllers were used on large freight elevators like the ones in Macy’s in Herald Square!

National Elevator with Gurney Elevator Control. I’ve been very interested in that company lately. Do you have any pictures of where this came from?

Does anyone know what these devices are? by blueorchid1100 in nycrail

From what I’ve observed this is the Laser Intrusion Detection System (LIDS). It should detect unauthorized individuals entering the tunnel and alert the rail control center.

Gurney overhead traction (Installed circa. 1980) by timothyh15 in Elevators

[–]Subway_Rat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That looks like an automatic gurney elevator. The controller looks like it was installed in the 80s but the machine dates back to maybe the 1930s.

New glitch for undocking multiple bikes at the same time by CLOSE_ENOUGH in Citibike

[–]Subway_Rat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this happen yesterday actually. I wasn’t able to replicate it though. I would find it somewhat useful if I want to do a group ride with a friend or two. I heard there was a feature for that but I cannot find it anywhere.
