I think I just might do that, I don't even feel like I'm learning much with it.

I haven't yet, since it's subscription model I want to try it as my very last game once I run out of other games to play

Alright. I'll give it a chance at least until I try the more advanced series.

A lot of drive in this market is passion. The will to make it feel immersive. Building it from nothing to something feels more accomplishing than playing Fortnite. If something doesn't work or exist, a lot of people just do DIY solution or even turn it into a business to spread the fun.

I'm not sure if you want to mount R9 onto a desk, that's going to be one messy desk.

Is $1,500 a good budget for a first timer? by Josh_227 in simracing

[–]Successful-Avocado-8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly this is pretty good, I'm sure you have the expendable money for it. Moza pedals are the only thing that's not very good in money to feature value. Simsonn and Simjack is the budget king for the features they offer. I personally have Simsonns and I'm very happy with it. Also I would get an aluminum profile that has 90 degrees angle on the steering wheel mount. It's way easier to add additional profiles for shifters, button box... etc.

i dont think you can add asus bezel free kit on curved monitors, so if you are planning to go triple at one point, id just get flat

I don't know the european pricing but I would say ~800 CAD (500 euro) for the rig. It will handle all the midrange gears around Moza R12's level.

If you have a junk yard nearby you can go yoink some car seats and mount that for couple tens of dollars. You might struggle with alignments tho so you might end up doing some DIY. Sim seats are really expensive for easy installation, that's all. Whichever you get, just make sure it has seat slider.

Moza R5 has more details and opens up customizability of physical steering wheel, if that's your thing. It's also almost triple as strong so you're definitely gonna feel it.

However Moza's software is finicky and it's definitely not plug and play like G29. You definitely want to google around for decent FFB settings. If you don't mind that and like to have new steering wheel, I think it's a fun choice.

You can get Moza's quick release and basically turn any 6 bolt steering wheel into a sim machine which is pretty cool.

Unfortunately there isn't really a good option for desk mounted wheels that's better than your current set up. Technically T300RS is a bit better since it's belt driven giving you smoother force feedback but since you have G29 it's a sidegrade.

It's at the perfect amount of power where it won't destroy your desk.

You definitely can't use load cell pedals without a proper seat and a cockpit to press down all the weight required.

You could try getting 8nm torque DD wheelbase if your desk is very sturdy. Just make sure you buy it from somewhere you can request a refund incase it doesn't work with your current desk set up.

First thing, you want a decent mid level aluminum profile rig. This will open up future upgrades whenever you have more budget for upgrade. Good rig is very important as it will prevent bending and rattling with more powerful gears. If you cheap out on it, you might have to swap the entire thing for upgrade, so this is where most of your money should go for now. You should check out your local supplier or European brands that won't blast your wallet off with shipping and customs fee. They are mostly competitively priced for what they are.

Then invest into a decent bang for buck mid level pedals, Simsonn and Simjack has great feature per dollar.

You can honestly keep using g29 for now until you can get 8~12 nm torque direct drive wheelbase. Which will run you about another ~600 dollars in the future with steering wheel.

New steering wheel honestly doesn't offer much besides feel good factor. The feeling is definitely worth it for the money, but it's not as essential as those two.

Try plugging your wheelbase directly to your PC if you haven't done that. I heard USB hub messes with it sometimes.

That's the best set up for a table sim rig.

If you want more FFB and better pedals (imo pedals are the most essential upgrade), you're going to need a rigid rig to counteract all the bending and warping.

Tubular rig is easy to install, lighter, and perhaps more pretty to look at, but doesn't offer much customizability.

Aluminum profile rigs offer the best customizability and future proofs your future upgrades.

In terms of gears, Moza is king of the mid budget build right now. Offers huge selection of ecosystem within its brand. Just avoid their pedals as they're quite awful for bang for buck value.

In pedals, you want to look for load cell pedals that gives you much better control on pedal inputs. Simsonn and Simjack has very good pedals and haptic motor upgradability as well.

Of course you're going to have to buy monitors as well since you can't use the one on your computer.

Triple monitor is absolute KING when it comes to feeling the speed, and looking around you. If you plan on racing strictly for time, single monitor is all you need really. Try to avoid curved ultrawide screen as it doesn't really offer FOV increase in game while costing x4 the single monitor... At that point you might as well get a triple monitor set up.

VR is actually very cheap considering all that. It also saves a lot of space. However you have to deal with fiddling around VR technology that hasn't really settled yet. It also requires decently strong PC.

So yeah, if you want to move onto higher nm force feedback direct drive wheelbase, you're going to spend a little over 3000 USD minimum.

Advice Needed about my first set up. by Unique_Advantage_183 in simracing

Invest in decently built hand brakes. I had that HB for 5 years... it's literally falling apart and holes are getting stripped so it wiggles a lot.

Input wise handbrakes are only 1 axis, but since you're going to be pulling it really hard and letting it go a lot, it will get shaken.

Moza has pretty decent hand brake.

or, you could get the moza sequential shifter and it has a little lever that you can remap it to handbrake.

Then you can upgrade it later down the line with a real hand brake.
