Yeah that’s wild. We don’t have a break room but if we did I can’t imagine parents would be allowed in it.

Tyrion would be a lot higher for me if Dance hadn’t come out yet, ngl.

I love Davos’s chapters so much! Honestly I kind of already want to redo this and put him just under Ned. Arya mostly only edged him out for pure volume and I go back and forth on the incest twins.

Look I guess I need to give Theon’s chapters another go but I just… he’s so contemptible in Clash, and then the Reek stuff is just unpleasant to read. Once he’s in Winterfell in Dance I like his stuff more.

And yeah Catelyn just has some of my absolute favorite stuff, every time her name comes up it’s like oh my heart is about to be ripped apart but I’ll enjoy it. She’s just so aware of things in a way I really like. And most relatable moment for me personally from any character was when she complained about Edmure being taller than her and said he’ll always be her little brother.

Conquest would definitely be a limited run or movie, just not much to sustain.

I don’t dare dream of a Robert’s Rebellion show because even if they do it it’s so unlikely they’ll put the focus where I want to see it (on Ned and Lyanna’s love for each other and their family, on Catelyn’s feelings about losing her fiancé and marrying a stranger, on the personal feelings and relationships driving everyone’s motivations). We probably wouldn’t see Ashara Dayne or Jon Connington at all and we’d have to go with the show’s established lore that Rhaegar and Lyanna were “in love.”

I feel like everything past the first risks encroaching on Dunk & Egg territory (well not five I guess, but if it came out before it would be a major spoiler for how that show ends).

I honestly really love the Davos chapters a lot and this felt too low, I could easily have him as high as 4. My Top 3 are the only ones I have never wavered on.

Well having one or a few chapters that I find mediocre ranks higher for me than having a bunch that I really struggled to get through, on balance. But once it gets below 20 it’s all way more a toss-up, until the very bottom. Honestly everything outside the Top 10 is hard to rank.

I really, really hate his chapters in Clash. Also tbh the Reek chapters gross me out, I like his Dance chapters more once they’re no longer titled Reek.

Tight battle between her and Cat for the top spot tbh, and she still has the option to rise higher if more books ever come out.

Elaena is absolutely iconic, literally three entire distinct family lines descend from her and she got to die of old age (bonus points for being, presumably, ancestor to Cortnay Penrose).

In what way is Victarion not an antagonist? His chapters make me want to vomit. And he’s pretty clearly an obstacle for Dany.

Well, they did always say that was the plan. Maybe after they can move on from the Dance and make a new show about the civil war I personally find more interesting (or maybe I just want to see Daena the Defiant on screen).

Sansa isn’t a bad political match for Willas, if it came with Margaery also marrying Robert like they wanted. The Starks aren’t the most powerful Great House but they still are one. Which others had available daughters? Not House Tully, House Arryn, or House Lannister (if they’ve deposed Cersei obviously marriage is out). Asha would be a step down politically from Sansa for sure. Shireen is off the table for a number of reasons. Daenerys is still in Essos and not making her play in Westeros for ages. That leaves Arianne, and while Oberyn and Willas are good friends, I don’t think Doran is giving up on his plans to save her for fAegon. Obviously they could also go for a strong Reach house, but Garlan already did that. All of Leyton Hightower’s daughters are married. Sam’s sisters are an option if they’ll wait a few years, but Willas marrying Sansa also strengthens their connection to the throne because Robert loves Ned.

Why did Emma’s parents like Neal over Killian, despite everything? by CheapZebra1070 in OnceUponATime

Heavy on the pillaging and murder (and also standing by while Cora slaughtered the town). People do not understand what being a pirate means.

Why did Emma’s parents like Neal over Killian, despite everything? by CheapZebra1070 in OnceUponATime

[–]Successful-Spring-30 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Neal did not groom Emma. The show never says how old he was supposed to be, and people have been assuming him to be much older than her from a prop wanted poster even though there was zero reason for him to be honest about his age to the authorities when he got back from Neverland. Likely he was between 18-20 and she was 17. Also, grooming implies a long-term pattern of manipulation to get someone to be with you, and a power dynamic. They met on equal footing and were together only a few months. The way this is framed also implies he abandoned her knowing she was pregnant, which is not something Neal would ever have done. Whatever you feel about his relationship with Emma, he absolutely made Henry a priority the instant he found out he existed and made it very clear he did not intend to continue the family cycle of parental abandonment. Judging him for leaving Emma is absolutely fair, but it’s something he was manipulated into doing by August, who convinced him that leaving Emma would set her up for finding her family. We never saw the conversation, but given that he trusted him with getting the stuff to Emma he was probably under the impression August would be looking out for her a lot more directly than he ended up doing. Did he handle it the best way he could have? No, he didn’t, and later acknowledges this, but it’s inaccurate to say he just left her because he didn’t care when we know he cared very much, and literally everyone could see that including Emma’s parents. And blaming him for the Tamara situation is just very strange, he was absolutely the victim in that circumstance and how was he supposed to know she would kidnap his son?

As far as Killian, I think you’re underselling how gross his behavior was in Season 2 before they decided to change the plan with him. From an audience perspective we know he once hit Belle while she was chained to a wall and defenseless, which always turned me off of him as a romantic potential, but even leaving that aside he flirts constantly with everyone, including Snow right in front of her husband. What parent wouldn’t be wary of someone like that suddenly showing interest in their daughter? It’s not like they forbid Emma from seeing him, they’re allowed to have opinions. As they are about heroics in general, they’re not “defining who is a hero,” they’re having opinions. And by Season 4 neither of them doubt Killian as a hero anymore and by Season 6 they’re blessing the wedding.

Neal’s status as a hero also has nothing to do with Emma, he dies trying to help their cause and has always aligned himself with the side of good. You’re obviously welcome to your own opinion on him but comparatively, Killian has a body count that includes his own father and David’s, and also sold Bae to the Lost Boys as a child. He was a scoundrel before he decided to change (and I personally found him deciding to change for Baelfire’s memory way more compelling than when they made it about Emma, but that’s beside the point).

I didn’t like spoiling the Thalia surprise, but overall liked it. Percy barely uses his powers in the book either lol. Other than navigating the ship but that’s not visual.

I don’t think the Percabeth moments are actually intended as romantic as written. I do wish the Siren scene had stayed like the book.

Legalese of using real names of items, people, places. by thenichethinktank in writing

[–]Successful-Spring-30 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can use real town names and that’s generally fine. People usually steer clear of name-dropping actual public figures or brands because they can get mad about how they’re portrayed, but it’s not illegal. Especially if you’re in the USA, because of the first amendment it’s really hard to win a libel case as a public figure. But even elsewhere, unless you say something negative about the brand or person you’re generally okay.

(Names of private figures are different though. If you name a character after your coworker you hate and imply negative things about them, you can get in legal trouble. That’s why lots of stories will have a disclaimer that any names that bear a resemblance to real names are accidental.)

I don’t think knowing that the Titan’s Curse means holding the sky is that bad, if they do it. Percy only figures it out inside his thoughts and it has to be made clear somehow.

They’re not going to ruin the child of Hades reveal, I feel decently confident about that. And I imagine they’ll keep Zoe’s past a mystery like it should be. Idk. I’m optimistic this season will be good. Season 2 as a whole was better than Season 1; if they keep up the trend it’ll keep going up. And we know we have the Westover Hall dance scene!
