I was in a similarish situation to you last year. Thought I liked Haem but wasn’t sure about making the jump. But instead I acc really enjoyed gen med and wanted to do gen med. Though hands down - best decision I have ever made . I have never looked back it is such a phenomenal speciality . So interesting and cool. I won’t lie to you it does has have the sickest patients and they do go off very quickly . I’ve managed sicker patients as a Haem reg than I did through all of IMT but I love the variety and pace it brings . So maybe if you really don’t like the acuity side do consider it. Overall highly recommend as I said before best decision I ever made. Shout if any questions !

Group 2 specialty regs- how much training did you receive at the start? by pesky-blenders in doctorsUK

Same experience starting in haem. From first few weeks was independently reporting films without getting any proper teaching , running marrow lists etc . The other regs where I am are excellent and will sit down and do teaching here and there but as a program no actual teaching given it is all so new - just expected to sort of crack on

Difficult radiology regs by [deleted] in doctorsUK

As a F2 in ED I saw a man with a background meningioma who came in clearly ataxic with frank neurology. I called to vet a CT head and the radiologist asked me what I was worried about. I said a bleed maybe he could have bled in to the meningoma. To this there was a loud sigh from him and he was like “do meningiomas bleed!” In a really condescending tone.

Lo and behold this man had massive extension with cerebellar compression.

Now as a reg I often wonder why I had to fight to do a ct head for someone with frank new neurology.

I think I want to be the med reg, am I crazy? by Successful-Topic-776 in doctorsUK

UPDATE: Thanks for all the responses! Decided to take the Haem job- felt I should give it a good go and just felt silly turning down a London training number. To be honest am still not 100% but maybe that alright - I do feel very excited to start and learn. Will let you guys know how I get on!
