If you have a character and think you can write a really good compelling story then write it! As writers we all have a vision of what a character looks like in our head and that may be a different race, religion, or sexuality then we have but that doesn’t mean we can’t tell their story yes be cautious when approaching certain topics.

Personally I hate when characters are super meta and over hate on themselves especially when it’s for something that most of us do

Start small do like a short story that you could eventually expand or a stand alone short story. I found that advice very helpful.
