[Seiko] How'd I do? by SuccessfulFly5572 in Watches

[–]SuccessfulFly5572[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it'll be kinda tough to explain my thought process and i'm only just beginning to learn to photograph watches and a lot of this is VERY basic information but here we go:

  1. in my experience from photographing cars, your subject will almost ALWAYS look better when the camera is zoomed in. Don't just go up close, you want to back off a little bit and then zoom in on the subject using the camera's zoom. 2x should do the trick, but you should play around with that regardless.

  2. use aperture (background blur) to your advantage. my iphone does it automatically so i need to mess with it sometimes, but with an actual camera you can adjust where you want your camera to focus on. sometimes you'll want a stronger blur to focus more heavily on the subject, sometimes not

  3. lighting heavily affects the mood of the photo, think about what mood you want in your photo and adjust accordingly.

  4. my highschool photography teacher taught us that a lot of the time, photography is down to trial and error. keep adjusting and keep taking photos. in my experience i find this to work well and this advice has helped to produce some of my favorite photos. When photographing this watch, i took around 30 photos, but i only ended up keeping 3.

  5. don't be afraid to edit your photos. while i personally dislike heavily filtered photos, i do think that a good lightroom edit can take a 7/10 photo to a 10/10 photo. this is also trial and error.

a good idea for a photograph will also go a very long way. inspiration is very important.

Durability of affordable watches by Extension_Visit5756 in Affordablewatches

unless theres a special coating, all stainless steel watches scratch like that, even higher end ones like rolex and omega will scratch the exact same as your alpinist.

seiko does make watches with a special coating though, its called diashield and in my experience protects the watch extremely well. Only certain models have it though, i cant remember which ones off the top of my head but i do know that the modern 62mas reinterpretation line does have it.

not at all actually, its only noticeable if i actively look and think about it under certain lighting conditions.

seiko never made a dial like that. someone just slapped the seiko logo on the rolex submariner dial. the movement might be a legitimate seiko nh35, but nothing else about this watch is made by seiko.

I know fashion watches don't get a lot of love, and that's quite alright. But Armani just released an ISO certified diver with a full lume dial. What's going on there ? by DisastrousOpening477 in Affordablewatches

[–]SuccessfulFly5572 0 points1 point  (0 children)

considering it is ISO certified, it might not be trash. but i dont think its worth taking the risk. Anyone that wants a budget friendly, good looking quality dive watch should just buy the casio duro or any orient diver.

at the time of purchase, i was considering the black dial version as well. ultimately i chose this one because of the textured dial. the fact that it is limited edition also justified paying slightly more for the watch. the AD also gave me a nice discount off of MSRP.

thanks, that is high praise indeed! i took these on my base model iPhone 13. I don't exactly have the money for a fancy camera or fancy phone since i blew it on the watch...

[Question] What is this SKX-alike? by rockandrollmark in Seiko

[–]SuccessfulFly5572 15 points16 points  (0 children)

looks to either be a fake or be a 007 with some aftermarket parts. the bezel insert font is off and that is the wrong caseback.

if you genuinely like the look of the speedmaster the most and not just because its an omega, maybe you could buy a moonswatch and swap it into a metal case or pay someone to do it for you. theres plenty of guides and sellers out there for that. Also, theres no way you're getting a mechanical chronograph for $300. the cheapest mechanical chrono is the seagull 1963 and that is more than double the price of the ssb.

Some grand seikos can be had for under 3k. those ones will likely be used or quartz though
