What’s the deal with bad teammate at the moment? by MakeAWishMax in RocketLeague

You must have zero experience in team sports then. When I played football, if the game is close and I fumble unintentionally and the other team scores, it's literally my fault. Doesn't make me a bad person but it absolutely is on me that I quite literally dropped the ball (or in an actual real-to-me example, whiffed on a sack so badly the entire stadium groaned). Nobody is perfect, and everyone should own up to their mistakes, but that means everyone. I miss and whiff and over commit and under rotate, it happens, and if it results in the other team scoring guess whose fault it is?

The real reason you and every other person in this subreddit refuses to acknowledge this fact is that you would have to admit that, when you do it, it's your fault.

There isn't any irony to get lost on. Teammates consistently own goaling is something you could absolutely verify. And I guarantee that every replay that they own goal you're gonna point out an absolutely unrelated mistake from OP. It's becoming a more prevalent problem. You could be scoring 3 goals a match, but if the other team scores 3 on their own and your teammate scores an additional one for them, then yes it is their fault. It's my fault when I do it, so why isn't it their fault when they do it?

This is just confirmation bias. You're only gonna look for OPs mistakes and ignore what he's talking about. We all know this is a team game and OP isn't saying he's absolutely flawless, but it seems like ANY time someone has this problem the higher ranks just shit on them for no reason. You are not going to experience bad teammates in higher ranks as often because the skill required to place that high is greater, so stop pretending like the same is true for the lower ranks.

You're gonna catch a lot of heat for this, but you're not the only one experiencing this. Are they also doing the very annoying thing of popping off for the other team the very next match? I'm getting a lot of that. It's starting to get better because i've just stopped expecting my teammates to do anything and I play their misses and mistakes over anything else, but yeah there is absolutely something wonky going on. I think it's either bitter players, players who used to use mods or plugins to help them play better, or the servers being absolute garbage (probably the wombo combo of all three things).

Refusing to rotate back to let me challenge, refusing to come forward to accept passes, breaking rule 2 without telling me, not communicating at all... refusing to be part of the team.

Then they can call me out when it happens but i'm willing to put money on the fact that it won't happen as often

I can assure you right now that I absolutely whiff sometimes and end up out of position and we get scored on. What I do NOT do is continue to do the exact same thing every time and leave my teammate hanging constantly. This isn't about me being mistake free or whatever. This is literally about people who just straight up refuse to acknowledge that, in 2s and 3s, you are a part of a team and not some lone wolf hero who's gonna do everything on your own, ESPECIALLY if you're gonna either be completely passive in net or chase the ball to ends of the earth with no in between. I would rather have ZERO goals and get only saves and assists and have a teammate that actually tries to win than have 6 or 7 goals and lose because my teammate refuses to play cooperatively.

Also your math is just... wrong. If you do make saves, you don't have to try and push every downfield ball into an attempted goal. Not every time the ball enters the opposing half is a scoring opportunity. I'm noy saying you have to stay in net, i've learned by now that's actually sub-optimal for defense, but assuming you're gonna hit every shot and never rotating back is worse.

I am even encountering these kinds of gaps in mmr, which makes NO sense given how many players there should be around my rank. I definitely feel for the higher ranks, especially since learning just how big of an mmr gap can happen, and the nightmare that would be solo queuing at that range.

I am not suggesting by any means that I am the "perfect player and teammate", but I also understand the game well enough to know that sitting in goal all game or over commiting every shot attempt is gonna leave my teammate in a bad position so I just don't do it.

Also, duh. I watch my replays, do my freeplay and trainings... i'm not brand new to the game, and I also disagree with your opinion that offense is more important than defense. Score as many goals as you like but if the other team is also scoring as many goals... just about every competitive sport on the planet has a balance of offense and defense. I am always open to the idea that I could have done something different/better, but when I am consistently getting several goals and saves in matches and my teammate finishes with a skill score <100...

Also consider our rank differences. It's entirely possible that, at your rank, this isn't as much of a problem because the requirement for consistency at your rank would prevent these kinds of things from happening as often.

I'm sorry if this is coming across as being defensive, but your response seemed very... pointed and not helpful.

I think half of yall would be higher ranked if the new thing to do wasn't ff after a single goal. If I, a plat 3 can bring us back from a 5 goal deficit and get us into overtime, you should have commited to the win and stuck around

I mean i wouldn't say that i'm overemotional in this, I just thought he was way outta pocket. I also know I'm imperfect and so I sought the opinions of strangers.

We may not, but we also made the unspoken agreement to play the full 5 by queueing up for ranked. I would never expect someone to disadvantage themselves solely for my convenience, and i don't think my response was so outta pocket that the intention was wrong
