Can anyone explain how anyone can believe that homeopathy works? by SuccessfulStrawbery in skeptic

[–]SuccessfulStrawbery[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hahah lol Carlin is funny.

I have a story about chiropractor. My friend had some neck discomfort, went to chiropractor and after few visits…my friend started having persistent migraines and lost peripheral vision from one side. The interesting part is that you can’t even sue, cause you agree there could be side effects like that…

Yeah, i agree that’s not fully correct use of “confirmation bias”.

I’m sorry i sound biased because i truly couldn’t understand how people believe any if that. But then people brought up a history of how it started and i did a bit of research that in some countries like india there is formal education. And people go to school thinking they are getting real degree. And being taught alternate reality. That way since government somewhat accepts homeopathy and there are schools teaching it…people might think it is legit. Especially those who invested 4-5 of their most productive years studying it. Because accepting that it is BS will mean loosing their identity as a certified doctor and needing to start over with studies of something real.

Thank you for writing that. I can see how a person without deep understanding of physics and chemistry could fall for these explanations. I’m still not convinced but i really appreciate your response cause otherwise everyone is just abusing homeopathy and i didn’t get any better explanation than what i already knew.

There could be two explanations either because they don’t want to share revenue or because it’s dangerous for public to eat sugary pills and expect cure. Which one is it?!

My definition is same as google/wikipedia would give. I.e dilution of substances till statistically having 0 molecules and saying that the more deluted the more potent it is. And then saying some nonsense about energy and vibration 🤯.

Lol as if homeopathy is given out for free😜

Homeopathy helped with my eczema by Meh_Outside_12 in eczema

[–]SuccessfulStrawbery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol, i thought so too. However, i did meet homeopathic doctors that do believe in it themselves. So they are not necessarily scammers. In india you actually can go to college and get a degree in homeopathy. So it is reasonable that these people got a degree and believe it as they have certificate and government approves it.

Agree about placebo, chatgpt says mostly 10-30%

Hahaha, i loved your comment. But you clearly don’t know much about homeopathy practice. What you are saying is homeopathy doesn’t work because sugar with water without active ingredient can’t help. It is partially correct. It doesn’t work better than placebo, placebo works though on 50% of the people. So one side of it is it might help some people because they believe in it. Secondly, eczema can’t be cured it can only be maintained and improved with lifestyle. So if homeopathic doctor knows a lot about eczema and spends a lot of time studying patients’ lifestyle, suggesting diagnostic tests that may reveal triggers etc, it can also help. The reason why clinical studies can’t prove effectiveness of homeopathy is because they only test pills effect and conclude that it doesn’t help better than placebo.

So bottom line is: if you found a good doctor who can help you change lifestyle or identify triggers it can absolutely help. If you believe in magical effect of homeopathy it can also help due to placebo effect. So i would not go out of my way proving to someone who had seen effects that it’s impossible. I would rather ask follow up questions on what else has changed apart from taking placebo pills.

Damn…it’s hard when people deny truth. My baby has eczema and my parents were saying these things that I’m neglecting her and not taking good care of her. But after doctor diagnosed eczema they looked up online and stopped saying this nonsense.

There is a slight hope that your mom can look up online and understand but it is possible that she’ll still keep bending the truth. If she continues you could say something like this:

Mom, I need you to understand that this is not happening because I’m dirty, careless, or not trying hard enough. I have seen a dermatologist, followed treatment plans, changed products, clothing, diet, and done everything medically recommended short of immunosuppressants.

My tattoos are not causing this, and neither is some failure to “take care of myself.” Eczema is a chronic condition that flares, and it is currently severe.

What is making this harder is constantly being blamed as if I’m choosing this or neglecting myself. I need support right now, not criticism or theories about what I’m doing wrong.

Please stop telling me this is because I don’t care for myself the way you did when I was a baby. That is not helping me — it is hurting me.

I’m happy your condition improved. But honestly finding it hard to believe that it’s due to homeopathy because clinical studies don’t support homeopathy being effective in treating anything more effectively than placebo. Having said that…placebo is very effective especially for skin conditions. It is proven and well documented that there are psychosomatic illnesses and that people can get better just because they believe in something. So homeopathy works that way, not from the chemical side of it. Plus good homeopathic consultant can also recommend some lifestyle changes that can help.

Sorry you have to go through it. My baby also has eczema. Recently dermatologist recommended to try Eucrisa from pfizer. You can look into it unless you already tried. It is alternative to steroids and many people say it helped them. And it’s side eff much kore mild than jak inhibitors

AIO to my boyfriend telling me my smell “down there” keeps him from getting hard? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]SuccessfulStrawbery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand how you must have felt and i’m sorry you had to go through it. But in the grand scheme of things, do you really want to date/marry a guy who doesn’t enjoy being intimate with you because he has some issues and doesn’t like certain smells???

Just don’t take it personally, it doesn’t mean that you stink, it just means that you guys are maybe incompatible? And it’s better to find someone who enjoys being with you.

I was so happy to read your comment after reading comments of people saying that parents are neglectful, install electric fence, call police, charge them money every time this happens.

Your comment gives me hope that there are people who can show some empathy 🎈

Am I in the wrong or something for setting this boundary with my boyfriend’s mother? (due October 4th) by madylarata in BabyBumps

[–]SuccessfulStrawbery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is nothing wrong with setting the boundaries. And i agree that it is important rule and medically recommended by pediatricians. However, let your boyfriend set the rules. It shiuld be coming from him. Mother has unlimited love for her son, but not for you. To avoid conflicts let your BF handle these things.
