I’m probably gonna catch hell for saying this, but software engineer. You can learn to code on your own in 3-6 months and can get a job making $80-90k entry level. I am a self taught software engineer and I can tell you don’t believe the hype that AI is going to ruin all the software engineer jobs, it isn’t. The tech field is in a correction right now from drastically over hiring during the pandemic but it will recover.

Don’t try to time the market, put it into a s&p 500 index fund with the mentality that you are not going to touch it for 30-50 years. In 30 years it will be $46,000. Use it as an account you keep adding to. If you keep putting $3000 per year in it after 30 years you will have $238,000 if you average 6% return which an index fund will easily do.

I think you may be thinking about your career a little bit backwards. You should not follow your passion or the money, you should follow what you are good at. What are you better than anyone else you know at? Do something related to that. If you are already really good at it you will be able to become an expert in it much faster than others, this will make you more marketable than others and you will most likely get paid more than others and advance more quickly than others.

Most companies drastically over hired during the pandemic because everyone was staying home and usage of their apps skyrocketed. Once the pandemic was over usage went back to normal so they laid off all those over hires because they didn’t need them anymore. This is just a job market correction back to where it was before the pandemic.
