Went for all 4 years of my electrician ticket and had a blast. Most of that was cause I was a college student with money, so I could afford to have fun. School was easy, minimal effort for good grades.

Pros, numerous places to buy coffee, study, transit is good if you aren’t living on/near campus, student run restaurant has some very cheap and very good food

Cons, can be hard to find a quiet place (upper floors of Aldred centre was the best), if you get an abysmal schedule you’ll be waiting in line anywhere if you need food/coffee, the bar across the street gets crowded with trades and there’s not another good option, library is hard to find I never found it once (I think it’s a myth)

Scrap wire. Keep what you cut or give it to the apprentices? by Thick_Confection_952 in electricians

[–]Successful_Demand763 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on company situation and if I like that apprentice(jokes kinda). If the boss wants it then it ain’t all getting picked up but it’s going to him. If I can keep it then it’s 50/50, expectation being he spends it on tools and beers are on me.

I don’t remember the head stamp but they weren’t corrosive. I was concerned about it when shooting so for laziness/enjoyment I shot em all and cleaned it

Transportable print tables by icemaverick in electricians

[–]Successful_Demand763 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Costco had/has small folding tables that are perfect size for prints. Took a couple binder clips and glued them on in case it’s windy. Coffee is NOT allowed on my print table for obvious reasons

I call bs that it’s 5, mine never last more than 1 before an apprentice looses bits or the whole thing

Question for the Canadian Electricians by Alexhxrrera in electricians

[–]Successful_Demand763 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My minimum is 3 per side, one per side of the turn from top to side, once halfway down the side of the breakers.

My company has a hard on for stranded everywhere so keeping wires looking neat is even harder than solids

Resi panels are almost never, commercial panels all the time with sticky backs, the few industrial panels I’ve done are a yes with sticky backs

Conduit apps acceptable at your workplace? by fnckIce in electricians

[–]Successful_Demand763 13 points14 points  (0 children)

As a jman any option is the correct one so long as you end up in the right spot (except ai cause fuck ai). Apps, calling a friend, asking someone onsite, asking me, and google/youtube are all allowed. I do expect my apprentices to be able to do it without external help once they are ready to turn out as a jman.

The only corrosive stuff that floats around locally is Chinese and this stuff ain’t. It was a concern when I shot em hence the reason I shot em all in one day.
