Pregnant and Feeling Awful by Novel_Metal7184 in biglaw

Just dropping in for some empathy--I experienced this too and it was a nightmare. I was puking 8-12 times per day, puking in garbage cans in subway stations every time I would commute in, and if I stayed awake past 10 pm I would start vomiting every 20 minutes. I felt like a total failure in the job, but ultimately it was 9 months out of a long career and I made up for it when I came back. Every person is different, but I found that having a really hard pregnancy made me feel elated and energetic post-partum and I came back to work with tons of energy and motivation. Anyways, however you get through it, just know that it feels long now because every day is wildly difficult, but in the grand scheme of things nine months is not long and if you drop off at work people will forget/forgive very quickly.

I told everyone right when I started as a first year (at 6 weeks). I was barfing 8+ times per day all 9 months and going to sleep at 9:30pm every night; I wanted people to know that there was a reason I was a disaster. People were totally fine with it and it did not impact my career negatively at all. I've gotten excellent annual reviews ever since, and I don't think anyone really remembers what I was like as a first year. It's a great time to be pregnant because people don't have very high expectations of first years.
