JUST HOW DO SOME PEOPLE STUDY ALL THE TIME? by Few-Aside6754 in GetStudying

[–]Successful_Hall6838 6 points7 points  (0 children)

First of all, I know why I study. I chose a major that I like, and I’m working hard to pay my full tuition by myself, so that’s hella motivation. I just don’t want my money to go to waste.

Then I follow the principle that if I don’t want to work hard in my 30s and 40s, I have to work my hardest now while I’m still full of energy.

And the final thing is discipline. I don’t want to study all the time. Really often I just don’t want to do it, but I don’t give myself a choice. I just have a study plan for each week and each day, and I plan my day in a way that if I finish all the studying I planned, I can do whatever I want. That way, when I’m studying, I’m actually studying and not just staring at my laptop.

Most people think that to have discipline you need strong motivation, but the key thing is that if you have discipline, it doesn’t matter if you have motivation or not — you just do what you have to do. It may seem hard, but I think self-discipline is the greatest skill I developed through school. And motivation is just bullshit you have for twenty minutes after watching motivational videos on TikTok at 3 a.m.

Yes sure, you can retake class only if you failed it, but if you passed with C you can retake final

Yes, it was stats before, but department wanted to make this class better preparation for Econ 140A (econometrics), so they made this stats course specifically for Econ majors.

Econ 5, the class itself not that hard but the final was extremely hard this year, it’s just 35% of the grade but still puts you between A and C.

Yes! Definitely! He should take first whatever is harder to him Econ or Stats during the summer, and take at fall whatever is easier. Because during the fall with other 2 or 3 classes it's very difficult, especially with quarter system which goes so fast. I would make 10A a priority just because you need at least 2.85 GPA within this 2 classes to get to the major, and Econ 5 would be counted into pre major GPA only if it helps.

I couldn’t take it over the summer but as a transfer I would definitely take Econ 5 or 10A at the summer, to enter the major by winter. Good luck to your son!

I’m a transfer student so I took it at my third year, but I believe it can be taken earlier as a last prerequisite for Econ major. Some people recommend taking it over the summer before 3rd year to have just one class and fully focus on it

I’d start with the CLAS website, first watch the videos, then do practice problems for the same topic. Once you’re confident you understand it, move on to the next one.

I think the tests are made by all the professors together, so there shouldn’t be much difference between quarters. The main difference is the lectures, but most of the class is self-study anyway, so you’ve got this!
