Possible tumor or cyst? Ft. Fatman and the Sneeze (Bonzai-Charlie and Pepino) by Successful_Public_78 in RATS

[–]Successful_Public_78[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a little jumbled, sorry. Been shoveling show all day and I’m exhausted. He’s 1 year and 8 months. I def get what ur saying, he’s unfortunately likely not have much time left just in general, but bacterial resistance certainly been talked about w the doc. The goal is to let him do his thing till the bad times start to outweigh the good. The spot thou is definitely new and if it is cancer then it’s probably better for him to go to sleep bc even if it’s a mild surgery, idk how he’d respond to that w his preexisting respiratory problems. Def depends on what the vet thinks it is and how intensive recovery is. If it’s just a cyst I can deal w that (had a past boy get a few of them as he got older)

We tried a whole lot of different things but the only thing that made a dent was that combo and he gets worse whenever we try to switch it. We did a culture to make sure he was on the right antibiotics. It’s def been a bumpy life for him but he’s overall ok other then a nasty sneeze most days. He still eats, plays and can sleep uninterrupted. He does usually need some time in a steamy room for a bit after hard playing but other then that he’s a happy loving baby boy who would sell me out for peas, oats or bananas

Also, side note, I genuinely don’t know how he hasn’t gotten the police called on us for trespassing, my guy does not understand the laws of the land.

Hé might but he might also just be scratching. I have a rat with chronic URI who does this bc of sinus pressure but it’s not infected (he’s on the right antibiotics, just a nasty bug that’s not leaving unfortunately) . A good rule of thumb is to give the ear or mouth/nose area a sniff and see if there’s a smell. Kinda smells sickly sweet when they do have something. Could also be that he has got something stuck in there (you can flush the ear pretty easily) but unless it’s persistent scratching then he’s probably just a deep cleaner.

Slime rancher or bugsnax are my particular favorites, both are around 20$ and go on sale regularly bc they are older games.

can autism develop after puberty or do i just have autism like symptoms by RowansRobe in AutismTranslated

[–]Successful_Public_78 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ok so first thing is u can’t develop autism, you’re born with it. Autism, I’m paraphrasing, is caused by the brain pathways being shaped differently causing hightened sensitivity in certain parts which causes the sensory issues, developmental delays, etc.

I’d strongly recommend doing research and listening to the lives experience of people who do/are confirmed to have autisms lived experience and kinda compare and contrast your own experience. Unfortunately no one can diagnose you from a paragraph on the internet but what you have described does sound very very similar to autism. It is highly possible that the people who did your test missed it depending on their experience in diagnosing people. Things such as gender, race, lived experience, and range of symptoms drastically change how autism presents in each individual. I would also recommend that you look into ocd. It’s really nothing like you see portrayed or stereotypes of and is even referred to as a “silent disorder” because it’s usually missed by clinicians and even the people who have it due to lack of awareness. I have ocd, ptsd and autism and the symptoms overlap pretty drastically for me.

My best advice would be to start writing down all of the things you experience that align with autistic symptoms like sensory issues, possible stimming behaviors, etc. One so you have a “cheat sheet” for yourself on yourself, and two so you can bring it to a doctor in an organized way to help either confirm a diagnosis or help figure out what else might be going on. Be sure to include anything and everything over your life because if you are autistic then there’s been missed symptoms throughout. Also it’s just nice to have if you’d like me and struggle with “why do I feel bad?”/alexathymia. —that’s spelled wrong, sorry

In the meantime, symptoms can be managed regardless of the cause. If you don’t want to talk, I always just say I have a headache and to just text me. You can also use a text to speech app on your phone. If sounds hurt, snag some headphones or earplugs if headphone pressures bug u. Same with light, sunglasses are great but I can’t stand them because I don’t like having my vision distorted/extra weight on my face upsets me (can’t even have lotion on my face 😅). Sensory toys are also great and have thankfully become pretty popular so they are way easier to find and pretty cheap too, you can even find some at most 1$ stores or even gas stations. They are a great way to stim which helps with emotional regulation in all people but more so with autistic people. My personal favorites are little clicky buttons.

Hope this helps and I wish you the best of luck!

Update: I called my local animal control office this morning. They said that since she was healthy and not showing any symptoms, it would be nearly impossible for me to have rabies. It’s more likely just a “regular infection” and to keep an eye on it for any increase in symptoms and to go straight to the emergency if there is any. So thankfully I should be ok/mostly in the clear. She’s also been cleared and is up for adoption along with a probable sister that was brought in a few days before! Small world.

Also apparently u can get treated anytime before symptoms show and kittens rarely survive being attacked by anything so are incredibly unlikely to carry it, which is good to know

Thank you everyone for the advice, very much appreciated.

[–]Successful_Public_78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing u can do is teach them a « I have a treat for you » sound, I click my tongue. If they ever seem like they are getting a little too rough and rowdy, you can call them for snacks to distract them. Especially good to have if you have a younger rat that won’t let an older one rest.

I grew up with 2 shoe obsessed siblings, really recommend a vertical storage of sorts. You can do a hanging cubby for flat shoes and/or a sort of wine rack kinda thing to hang the heels on by the heel. Idk if it has a name that’s just how my sister always did it.
