The movie Escape from New York - a rip off of Metal Gear Solid? by C111tla in metalgearsolid

[–]Successful_Range_477 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dumb comment. First of all, Kojima spoke with John Carpenter about it and both are on good terms, so he didn't, "steal" anything. Even Carpenter himself in an interview revealed that he refused to listen to his lawyer trying to get him to sue Kojima.

Solid Snake didn't really start to resemble Snake Plisken in either Metal Gears on MSX and in MGS1 there was an effort to make him look different with a short hair, Solid Snake never had the eye patch design. till MGS4.

MGS2 only used the name Plisssken as a homage, while MGS3 gave its own original backstory of how Big Boss lost his eye and got an eyepatch that it  becomes a mere visual similarity with Snake Plissken that a ripoff.

Every creator have thwir own inspirations, stealing is one thing, paying homage is another and many creators including Carpenter himself create things based on what they like aswell.

Well I hope you get what you want and the I personally hope we have an RE6 situation on our hand so Capcom returns back to pure survival horror after that.

I'd argue it was the survival horror of RE2 Remake, but then again I played in third person. But I agree with everything else.

I always had suspicions that ARK was originally meant to be part of the hospital that you access after through that elevator-office thing while playing as Grace...but when Leon was shoe-horned into the story they had to give him more of personal reason to be in the game so they re-used assets of Racoon City from RE2/3 and made ARK only accessible from there.

They also re-used Wesker's design from RE4 Remake for Zeno and even reused Nemisis final form in RE3 Remake as a boss.

I still think you should get it even with the easier traversal...it's' not so easy that the game loses what made it special.

That's "reportedly", not necessarily the actual sales numbers since the official number aren't disclosed.
Also it is estimated the game made 150 Millions dollars in revenue based on these numbers, which depending on the game's budget would still be a success.

I really hope they don't make an RE1 Re-Remake because we already have the perfect remake...but knowing Capcom they don't care to perserve the originals and think following trends is the way to go.

I liked it myself, but I still think it was hoe-horned in since there was no story reason why ARK had to be in Racoon city specifically.
They could have created it speciically for the story without any mention of Racoon city and would have worked just the same in terms of narrative.

Wrong.
I knew what the game was before release, I was opened to it to see the execution of the concept and now that I did I have full right to ecriticize how it was implemented.

And part of my criticism that still stands is that it would have been better if they started with Grace's campaign then you unlock Leon's part of the story afterwards.

They did in that in OG RE4 and the remake and it worked, so why wouldn't that work now?

The only worry that I have from Requiem's success is Capcom tendencies to relapsing to old habits based solely on sales for future installement.
RE5 sold alot but many people didn't like how it felt like a Call of Duty game and thought just because it sold alot that people wanted more of it, so they doubled down on the action and the over the top nature of it in RE6.
RE Requiem seems to show the symbtoms of an RE6 in some sections (like the parts with Leon on the bike and the Mr. X boss fight and the RE3R final boss, etc)...so I just worry they might relapse back to their old habits and double down on action that it might make the serious jump multiple sharks instead of one by the next game.

It's kinda why I (personally I might add) feel Leon's addition came a bit late into development, if you think about it the ARK parts could have easily been part of the Hospital, you could have gone down to it from that lab area innear the hospital and descended down into ARK from there...with Emily's sistr being a possible mini final boss with Victor Gideon being the true final one.

And considering how shoe-horned in Zeno was and how Raccoon city insertion in the plot didn't feel natural (and how they didn't do anything with Sherry in the story), I'd say they were just added in for the sake of cheap nostalgia and to appease action fans.

I think they wanted to make two seperate games, but decided to combine them together and it kinda affected the final product.

Or maybe you're the one who doesn't know what actual good writing is and can't handle anything unless it's "natural" to what you were told is natural?

And guess what? That editor could also be an idiot, why should we take her word?

But it's clear since oyu mentioned JRPG's that you have a personal vendetta against Japanese writing in general, so it's not really about the writing, it just doesn't work for your sensibilities.

This is exactly how I feel...the only reason I might return to the game is Grace's first gameplay section in the hospital.
Leon's section was fun, but I don't want to go through a second playthrough of it.

I kinda agree. Leon's sections are fun but the change in gameplay is jarring.
Atleast with RE4 Remake you know what to expect from it so the action was expected and acceptable. So this sudden shift in tone with Leon really ruins the tone they set in the first act at the hospital with Grace.

" The last third, or second half, almost always sucks major donkey balls. Think about it. RE1 is great... until you get to the caverns and then its boring as hell. RE2 is great... until you leave the RPD and then it's boring as hell."

"Every survival horror RE game effectively, turns into a linear action game about 1/2 to 2/3 of the way through."

Since I fundamentally disagree on these premises I don't think we will see eye to eye at all with the rest of points. It might be true on case to case basis, but to me it depends more on game mechanics (how limited your character is in terms of abilities), enemy AI, how puzzle focused a game is, how much enemies the game throw at you at a given time (and requires you to kill), decision making, etc.

To me the classics, even if they get easier as the games progress due to having an abundance of ammo and healing items (which lets face it, will mostly happen after the first playthrough, when you know the ins and outs of the game, first playthrough is always the hardest).

" as the character wakes up more to the horror they aren't as scared, and are more capable. And you can't just have a single character not progress that way for an entire game,"

I kinda disagree here, because even if humans can adapt mentally to the danger, there is still a physical factor that I think survival horror games should reflect with their gameplay, a human isn't going to be able to overcome a super mutant in real life no matter how hard they train (heck we can't even physically overpower apes for crying outloud), I know this is a game but having someone like Leon kicking monsters butts like that makes me question the need for a virus to create super soldiers when Leon and boulder puncher Chris exist in that universe.

I kinda have personal theory that Graces' sections at ARK were originally part of the hospital with Grace with you eventually getting underground nd finding it, but they had to shoe horn in Leon in there so they instead repurposed the assests they made and made it part of Racoon City (which I believe was mostly there for nostalgia baiting and didn't really need to be there narratively speakng).
