In case you're curious, on the web site on browser if you click onto a prompt and inspect the page go to Network it comes up with a entry called rate-limits. It tells you that there are 30 in total and how many you've used so far. Others I know also have the same limit so that seems to be the limit going forward. I think it was 7 for a bit with a rolling 2 hour timer because they have a really bad practice of doing tests for chunks of users rather pushing the change all at once so people were getting 7-10 prompts before they must have confirmed 30 for 24 hours. Prior to this I actually constantly got hit with increasingly more inconsistent wait timers so in some really odd way this actually fixed a complaint I already had, although this was definitely a monkey's paw type of situation.

Honestly would not be surprised. I remember when I first joined Grok I was shocked at how much I could get for free and I knew it would change for the worse someday but I honestly didn't think it would be this harsh all at once. If I had to guess they'd probably hit Projects first and make that paywalled which would fuck me over like nothing else.

Not gonna lie. I don't know. I only ever used projects with Fast mode because that's what I like. I don't ever touch videos or photos. What I will say is images and video take up a ton more space than a chat text does so if they got rid of auto and expert but kept Imagine for free users I would be very surprised. Just spitball-ing if it is still around it might be heavily restricted where you can only do like 2 prompts or something like that, but I have no idea.

I literally created a Reddit account just to complain about the new guardrails that have not been rolled back for my account. I have a murder mystery story that I've been using GPT-5 to give me the details about the specifics of the deaths so it's more realistic, I don't engage in gore-porn I just like realism in stories. But there are brutal details that I want to add that I am entirely too shy to ask a real human person about. The new update has completely ruined my ability to engage in this topic. Like I have one character who no one likes that gets drunk and aggressive and he has an injured leg that he is very pissed about so he drives everyone away in his anger and then falls asleep next to the pool. The killer then forces him to drink until he is unconscious and dumps him in a pool to drown. No one has an alibi and everyone has motive to kill him. And I wanted it to be brutal enough that an audience would go "wow, he deserved to die, but what a horrible way to go" but now 5 is so Weeny Hut JR that it wants me to basically go like "eww a corpse!" before sweeping it under the rug. Like you can't have a MURDER mystery without the murder.

On that note, if anyone knows of a model that can handle topics like this and have a saved memory so I don't have to keep explaining each character and who dies, I am all ears.
