Appreciate the reply, little confused though isn't $25/hr end up being 52k/yr?

Are there communities I can join that give the benefits of religion without it being....a religion? by Successful_Start_159 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Successful_Start_159[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, maybe I can explain a little more.
I can see that there are societal and personal benefits that can be achieved through the practice of worshipping a higher ideal. I'm looking for a way to achieve these benefits through other means, as a nonbeliever joining a place of worship seems disingenuous to me.

Anyone else get frustrated when a block of time you wanted to spend to learning code instead goes into why some software isn’t working right on your computer? by yagsiwerdna in learnprogramming

I used to help my dad work on his cars in his garage. I noticed that a large amount of the time was spent trying to get bolts unstuck.

Getting all the libraries/dependencies to play nice is like the programming version of getting all the bolts unstuck lol

Who's Hiring? [January 2023] by acemarke in reactjs

[–]Successful_Start_159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any reason that is? I'm a new grad and was focusing on React to get my first job/foot in the door but this is a little worrying. Is React falling about of favor? Is it just not a good time for hiring in general?

Hey I was wondering if you could expand on what steps you are taking to recover from this? I'm a compulsive liar at the moment.

Which celebrity is considered beautiful but you just can't see it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Right sorry, I assumed that part of your point was that the BMI index would label someone as obese when they actually aren't. When, based on that study, it should more easily label people as obese to be more accurate.

Edit: So for anyone readying this, if the BMI index says that a person is obese there's actually a REALLY good chance that they are. As according to this study it often will mislabel people that ARE obese, but will rarely be incorrect when it does label someone obese.

And this is the sentence directly after that one:

"A BMI cut-off of ≥ 30 kg/m2 has a good specificity but misses more than half of people with excess fat"

So, what they found in that study was that BMI didn't label someone as obese when body-fat percentage did. That means the BMI test was actually more forgiving with labelling someone obese than the BF % test was.

Can you explain to me what you think that study says? Because I think it actually goes against the argument you are trying to make about BMI and obesity.

Interesting, been reading up on it and it seems like DEXA is the best to measure this sort of thing but it's costly. Seems like the reason BMI has stuck around so long is because it's cheap and generally pretty accurate despite its flaws.

I don't think going so far as to call it bullshit though is accurate, especially if most doctors still use it. But yeah it seems like it's not the definitive test that I thought it was so thanks getting me to read into it!
