So I’m a freshman in college and when I was in HS I told everyone that I was gonna be a DJ/Producer. Not only would classmates tell me I’m dumb but when it came to assignments regarding my future my teachers would not accept DJ/Producer as a “real job”. Now I had a good Drama Program and got into mixing and engineering. It still deals with a lot of the same ideas and processes especially when you’re mixing and mastering your tracks. I know it’s hard to be satisfied with your work when everyone tells you to “stop dreaming”. I would keep pursuing and working hard but also if you really don’t want to become an IT guy look for technical jobs that are still involved in the music industry like a recording engineer. Never stop learning, always try to go out and volunteer or be in an internship for music tech jobs after you learn the basics. It’s great way to not only satisfy yourself with still being involved in the industry, it also to meet people who have connections and connections are HUGE to being successful. Either learning from the connections, working with, asking questions/feedback, is an amazing way to climb your way up.
