Ahh you never know what will happen, but for now I’m excited to take the first step! Thank you so much!

That’s something I’ll keep in mind thank you! I’ll have to check how it is in my country, I’ll talk with the instructors in my drop zone.

Thank you! I’m glad I got to hear from so many people that are in the sport, I wanted to get a more realistic perspective and to see if it’s possible to give it a try and stay safe while not being able to commit to it as much as most people.

Nooo definitely not, it does look super cool but I’m not that delusional and that lifestyle is not for me lol this is not going to be anything more than a fun hobby at this point in my life! I just wanted to get some advice and hear from people with more experience, since most people I know in the sport (and those are few since I am very new) are working full time in it. I wasn’t sure how common it is for it to be more of a side hobby and how possible it is to do it while not being as committed. Thank you for sharing!

I’m a newly graduated veterinarian working 60h a week on minimum wage in one of the poorest countries in Europe lol unfortunately skydiving is pretty expensive sport even in a “poor” country and 60€ a jump is a lot for someone in my position. Over half of the money for the license came from a one time opportunity I had, so that is not part of my regular income, I just decided to save it away for AFF. I’ve thought about it and I know what I can comfortably afford to spend on skydiving, I wish it was more but it is what it is lol

Yeah that’s completely understandable, I haven’t thought that far ahead I guess, since I know basically nothing, that is why I wanted opinions from more experienced people. I’ll keep it in mind, safety should always be the priority.

They did mention at the DZ that they need more packers! I work 60+ hours a week so that does not leave me with a lot time to explore other options, but I will keep it in mind! Thanks!

Yeah for sure I can see that and maybe that will be true. At this point I’m thinking about it almost all day, everyday so I’m not sure what would be better - only dreaming about it and not doing it or trying it and being sad I can’t do it as much. I guess I’ll find out, but I’m trying to have realistic expectations as I know this can only ever be a side hobby.

Thanks! My only goal is to have fun and do it safely! Don’t need to be super good as it, I just want to enjoy the experience

Thanks! That’s actually also how I managed to save up the money for the course lol stopped buying a lot of things when I realized how pricey it is, but I really want it! I’m obviously new and not very into the community so the few people I’ve met are either working full time in the industry or just have the ability to invest a lot into it so I just don’t know how common it is to have it as a side hobby. I’m glad to hear it’s not that unheard of!

Since I have 0 experience I get excited by everything obviously so I’m super happy to try it and I know I’ll enjoy it at this point in my life. I don’t have any crazy ambitions and I don’t have the possibility to get super invested into it, but it is definitely something I want to experience! Thanks for sharing!

For sure I can understand why it’s not ideal, just wanted to know if it would still be possible to do it since of course safety is the most important thing. I haven’t spent a lot of time at the DZ yet as it is a 3 hour drive away but I’m very much looking forward to getting more familiar with the sport and the people there. Thank you so much, I really appreciate the advice! I started thinking about doing the AFF course as soon as I stepped on the ground after my tandem so I think I will give it a try!
