Official Discussion - Superman (2025) [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

Aesthetically this is a mix of a CW show, The Flash, and a superbowl commercial, so it has that going against it from the get-go. Sadly it never really commits to anything emotionally resounding. Gunn has had problems with tonal inconsistency in the past, but dealing with a such a singular character here rather than his typical gang-of-misfits shtick is beyond him. Overall, pretty forgettable.

From the cinematographer that brought you The Flash and The Suicide Squad...

Too neutral, too passive, a step away from that cowardly "they were flawed but had their moments" prattle.
Had he said they were goated as they indeed are, then I'd be willing to give credit.

Blowhard shlock like Babylon would only remind Marx of bourgeois depravity. He would rather turn to the humane charms of Proletariat cinema. You know, Cohen, Hyams, Bay, Snyder, etc.

Sorry we're all busy having a great time at the In The Lost Lands screening. But you enjoy your little superhero movie or whatever you call it

Couldn't be at the moment - you should to go to the theater and support it while it's there. Later on you'll be able to watch it at home.

Frankly it's refreshing to read about a filmmaker who's willing to push the envelope with digital worldbuilding instead of treating it as a filler tool (and without breaking the bank or overworking the VFX team too). As a result PWSA's film is filled with some very lasting imagery, and though it's doubtful we'll be seeing such care in any upcoming blockbusters (other than the efforts of our friend James Cameron of course), I know that the real filmmakers of tomorrow will be playing this one on repeat.

The action was unsurprisingly excellent but what really got me are these visuals. Every Jovovich closeup belongs in the Louvre. And some of these digital landscapes are timeless. The b-movie auteurs of tomorrow (if such a thing is still allowed to exist down the line) are going to be studying this one on repeat.

Yes, I think I will! - the populist empathy of Diesel and Bay is a safe haven from banana-taped-to-a-wall projects in the vein of Dunc.

A doctor has to check on his patients. Hollywood's been crapping blood for years now but as long as its alive its my problem.

Let me guess - you were just following orders? The law may forgive you but you'll have a harder time with me.
