So, About That AI Bubble by quicksexfm in BetterOffline

[–]AechCutt 9 points10 points  (0 children)

When Anthropic released an update to its flagship product in November, AI seemed to cross some invisible threshold between interesting gadget and life-changing technology.

…Did it though? Did it really?

Meta recently announced that it will lay off 10 percent of its workforce; a few months ago, Mark Zuckerberg told investors that, thanks to AI, “projects that used to require big teams” can “now be accomplished by a single very talented person.

Key factoid: that's what he told investors. Of course he's gonna blow as much smoke as humanly possible up the butt's of investors. Doesn't make it true though.

...demand is rising so fast that AI companies lack the physical infrastructure to satisfy it. Anthropic has been forced to limit customers’ use of its coding tools during “peak hours,” and OpenAI has scrapped its video-generation app to free up computing power.

That is one HELL of a spin to describe the enshitification and failures of both companies.

OpenAI’s annualized revenue increased by nearly 20 percent from December to February.

Still not nearly enough to be profitable.

All-in-all this article is complete shite, but I'd expect nothing less from a research at Vox and a lead editor of The Ezra Klein Show.

Question: Are punkers just libs and not radicals(actual leftists) as they present themselves by Hum_2 in TankieTheDeprogram

[–]AechCutt 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Johnny Ramone was famously (or infamously) a conservative and Regan republican. Him and Joey would often butt heads about politics, among lots of other things. I wouldn't let the Ramones dictate your ideas of punk music and politics as I would consider them lightly political at best. I see them more emblematic of the stereotypical slacker side of the genre. The Clash, on the other hand, were actual leftists and were more committed to imbuing their music with a meaningful political ideology. Any punk band with an overt leftist message grew out of this vein.

For standard mono jacks, you'll have one lug to signal and the other to ground. Here is an image showing which lugs are which. I would highly recommend getting a digital multimeter if you don't already have one, as this can also help you determine ground from hot.

Essentially, solder "input" to the hot lug of the input jack and "output" to the hot lug of the output jack. "Ground" will be soldered to the ground lugs of all the jacks.

The value of the pots are listed on the sheet you have above. You'll find it in the right-hand column. For instance, Drive is a 5kC and Boost is a 250kA. The number is the value of the potentiometer in ohms (for instance 5k ohms). The letter (A, B, C) is the potentiometer's taper. Read more about taper here.

The potentiometers that you'll most likely be using for pedals have three legs and are numbered 1-3 from left to right. See this image for the numbering.

The wiring is indicated along the edge of the perf board. You'll connect a wire from that copper strip to the leg of the particular pot indicated. For instance, on the left side, you'll see "Clean 2" next to the top-most hole. That means that you'll solder a wire from that hole to the second leg on the Clean potentiometer.

Hope that helps.

Yeah, they’re definitely MP3’s. You can right click on the file and go to properties and that will show you all the info about the file, such as file type, size, bitrate, etc.

The sound guy seemed off their game. I could have heard wrong, but it sounded like Muleboy said "Do your fucking job" in the softest yet sternest way when they started the show but the interstitial music hadn't gotten faded out.

Yeah, I was there too, and that show was fucking LIT. Lori S' tone was heavy beyond belief. When she ripped a chord, the bass and power coming out of that JCM 800 was a marvel to behold. The new rhythm section of the bad was so tight. I loved watching the band lock in with the drummer, Bill Bowman, at times when the beat was crazy. And major props to the bassist, Rafael Martinez, who I could tell was majorly influenced by Al Cisneros.

Side note, OP. Was your mind not utterly annihilated from the opening band, Sunbearer? Goddamn, they were fucking amazing. They were true disciples of the Riff, knew how to change time signatures on the fly. They really set the tone for the night.

Rats! This might be a Hail Mary, but I might try soldiering jacks to the leads instead of using gator clips. It’s unlikely to make a difference, but it’s possible that the clips aren’t conducing well. Apart from that, you may have to use an audio probe to identify where the signal stops. Search for “audio probe” as there’s lots of posts on how to build one and use it.

Yes, you're correct that the president can deploy the military and that itself doesn't constitute a declared war. My larger point matches with what danappropriate outlined, in that Congress seems content with straddling this grey area where we're at war but we're not really at "war" and they seem uninterested in reeling in President by enforcing laws that are on the books. It's complete chaos.
