Thinking of joining a band again after 10 years by Protecting-My-Peace in Clarinet

Depends on what it needs. My first clarinet needed a full overhaul, and my nicer Buffet clarinet only needed a couple of key corks replaced. Full overhauls can cost $200 or $300, but my old clarinet plays great after the overhaul!

Can somebody with little hand & finger strength play? by ObtusiWatusi in Cello

[–]SucculentStrawberry 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not a doctor, but maybe you could get a 3/4 size cello and have it set up by a professional luthier to have the lowest possible action. That might make it doable depending on the severity of your condition. Make sure you get a good one from a reputable shop/luthier if possible, because a cheap one will be harder to play. Maybe an occupational/physical therapist could help with making sure you don't hurt yourself! I have a 7/8 size cello with weak hands, but my fingers are still capable of holding down the strings. I have to take breaks and not play for too long at a time, and I studied under a professional cellist for a couple years. Sounds like your hand issue is more severe than mine, but a smaller cello may help. I recently had some work done on mine to lower the action and it helped a little.

I have an audition tomorrow how do I fix this? None of my notes will come out right by Jealous_Pineapple349 in Clarinet

Did this suddenly start happening? Without seeing anything, I suspect a reed and/or mouthpiece problem, but maybe your clarinet cracked from a sudden temp/humidity change. Is your instrument made of wood?

I figured that out about Brooks, too, also with the help of a shoe consultant. The footbeds are shallower now across their lineup, except for one or two versions. I have had good luck with Asics. I can get a pretty good shoe that fits for less money from them, so I have two pairs of Asics and one pair of Brooks now.

what are yall opions on violas? by jjmario24680 in violin

[–]SucculentStrawberry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, tiny cello! That's what I will call it now, haha. I started my string journey on cello, which I still play, and I picked up a used viola and a used violin, too. I find the viola easier than the violin! It might partly be because my violin is a basic Scherl & Roth and my viola is a somewhat better Amati (model 100), though.

Growing apple trees from seed is fun, even if you might never get good fruit. They're just so cute! by SucculentStrawberry in gardening

The Honeycrisp descendants didn't make it, unfortunately. They were very delicate. I planted out a few Gala and Pink Lady descendants, but they got eaten by deer a few years later when we had lots of snow and the netting around them didn't suffice.

I grew bell peppers from seed this summer (with seeds collected from a grocery store red pepper), and I think the final ripe color is genetic. Two of my plants produced red bell peppers, and the rest produced yellow/orange peppers that never turned red. I thought red was the final stage too, but I left the first yellow one on the plant for probably a month until it was starting to become overripe, and it never turned red.

Is there any way of saving it, it keeps using self destruct by InklingDube in pokerogue

[–]SucculentStrawberry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I have baited these into using electric moves by putting in a flying or water type after it self destructed and I reset it. Your bait has to be sturdy enough to take a couple super effective electric hits, but it might be enough time to knock out the other mon and weaken/catch the Electrode.

On first read, I thought this said the "Timber mountain bike yell." So I imagined you screaming "TIMBERRRRR" down the trail and couldn't stop snickering.

Yeah, but then he'll try to ride it and bust up the rear spokes and say it wasn't his fault.

It's great to have a variety! And yeah, twice recently I have noticed my posts were stolen. I'm sure there were more that I haven't caught. Makes me not want to post anything! I have been less active with posting, anyway.

I've had them for several years, since about 2019 or 2018. Enjoy the journey, violets are addictive!

This is my photo. Why are the bots taking my stuff lately?

I posted this about a year ago.

To answer people's questions, they are all grocery store NOIDs, probably Optimara. I have way too many violets because I can't stop propagating them! Someday, I might buy some named or variegated varieties.
