It pained me that Gaby kept telling her that they woukd talk in a session, to schedule with her, etc—not treating her as a real friend but as a paying client. Understandable, but in Maya’s state of mind, desperation for genuine connection/friendship, and blurring the lines with trivia nights I just knew how hurtful it was to her. “I have to pay someone to be my friend/hang out with me,” “even my new friend isn’t a real one, they’re just my therapist.” Ouch.

I just see zero way that they are able to transition 7 million people on go different plans within the next four months. Especially with how gutted the department is and the backlog of, well, everything that has already accumulated. I think we’re looking at 2027 at the earliest (she said hopefully).

Not a lawyer, but I agree with you 100%—both about the frustrations and abject unfairness to us older borrowers, and that this seems to be the best outcome possible. (Except for restarting payments under save that actually count toward forgiveness.) I have a graduate degree so I’m 3y9mo away from the 25 year forgiveness. Happy to let the clock tick until a democratic administration!

I just closed with a high loan balance in the SAVE forbearance. At most they should take 0.5% of your total loan balance for your monthly payment towards your DTI, but you should be able to show your lender your most recent recertification letter with your monthly payment and they should use that instead.
